Job Title: Substation Construction Apprentice Lineperson

We are seeking an experienced Substation Construction Apprentice Lineperson to join our team at Utilities Service Co Inc. The successful candidate will assist with the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of substation equipment and hardware.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with groundwork and clear work areas to maintain safe job site conditions.
  • Assemble materials on the ground and install conduit and cable in ditches and hardware from aerial devices.
  • Excavate to assist in the installation of structures or cable as required by contract specifications.
  • Operate motorized equipment and use hand tools to perform routine maintenance on electrical equipment, machinery, and tools.
  • Work at varying heights above ground with proper Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Operate various tools for the work, including manual digging devices, wrenches, hammers, saws, jackhammers, and power tampers.
  • Communicate with public and private property owners to inform them of work to be performed.
  • Participate in company training on regional safety guidelines and perform all work in accordance with regional safety policies.
  • Work around hazardous and near-energized parts or equipment.
  • Work around excessive noise from machines, jackhammers, saws, and other equipment with proper hearing protection.
Requirements:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Experience in wire stringing operations, wire sagging methods, assembly, and installation of various hardware assemblies.
  • Able to work with hands above head for extended periods, work efficiently and effectively from heights, walk, climb, and work from ladders or at various heights on uneven and slippery surfaces.
  • Follow directions, work safely and productively, safely enter and exit the aerial device and rear-end of the bucket truck, meet and maintain weight restrictions for the bucket truck as identified by the aerial device manufacturer.
Education and Experience:
  • Experience in the installation and maintenance of substation equipment and hardware is preferred.
Travel Requirements:
  • Must have transportation to and from the show-up location.
  • Must be willing to travel out of state for emergency storm work.
Physical Requirements:
  • Rarely: crawling, climbing, reading, climbing stairs.
  • Occasionally: sitting, stooping, kneeling, squatting, body twisting, sense of touch, range of motion, climbing ladders, balancing.
  • Frequently: walking, manual dexterity, seeing distant, climbing on/off truck, gripping, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Continuously: standing, speaking clearly, seeing, hearing-speech range, depth perception, color vision, lifting up to 10 lbs.
Safety:

Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally.
