Summary

The Director of Quality demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. This role will focus heavily on People, Process and Systems and will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization. The Director will have oversite of multiple sites within the Engineered Products business segment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under minimal to no supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:

  • Evaluates current procedures and practices for accomplishing department objectives; develops and implements improvements as needed.
  • Validate quality product specifications and quality attributes; measure and document objective evidence; determine operational and performance qualifications; develop and update quality.
  • Provide guidance to engineering during design and specification requirements to best utilize quality processes and techniques.
  • Prepare quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends including corrective actions, failed processes, recalls, return merchandise and re-validations.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of manufacturing and quality systems and create improvement cycles based on performance results.
  • Interface with engineering and manufacturing/operations to ensure customer requirements and specifications flow down to products and services.
  • Support manufacturing and quality project planning and scheduling to assure a seamless execution and delivery of products and services.
  • Support quality task sequences, planning (work instructions) and workflow for fabrication, assembly, integration, test, and shipping/receiving.
  • Interface with engineering and manufacturing/operations to ensure customer requirements and specifications are flowed down to products and services.
  • Support the company quality performance rating process to continually improve customer satisfaction.
  • Manage Material Review Board activities and control and disposition of non-conforming material.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Key Objectives and Accountabilities

  • Develop and implement Quality dashboard and supplier scorecard; First Pass Yield data, DMR, COPQ
  • Champion AS9100 and quality and performance alongside preparing the EP site for AS9100 Rev. D Compliance
  • AS9100 Subject Matter Expert with the responsibility to support the development, implementation, and management of the Quality Management System per IS0-9001/AS9100/QMS 14001
  • Generates protocols, reports, and SOPs, reviews protocols, SOPs, product specifications, and records.
  • Support first article testing, test analysis, manufacturing processes, process documentation, project workflow and shipping/receiving.
  • Manage quality metrics, trends, and Lean activities to improve cost, quality and schedule performance.
  • Directs and coordinates the activities of the quality control function to ensure achievement of company objectives.
  • Implement a quality culture of root cause analysis and closed loop corrective action to prevent future escapes and continuously improve quality.
  • Develop quality plans by conducting analyses, identifying critical control points and preventive measures, establishing critical limits, monitoring procedures, corrective actions, and verification procedures, and monitoring inventory quality.
  • Maintain FAA Repair Station Quality Manual and ensure company compliance.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise employees within the Quality department
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and Experience:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or related required.
  • Five (5) + years of increasingly responsible quality management experience in aerospace manufacturing environment, avionics or directly related field.
  • Certified in ASQ - QE
  • Six Sigma Blackbelt or Greenbelt certification desired.

Required Skills:

  • Language: Must have excellent written and verbal skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to work logically and independently.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, & percentages.
  • Abilities: Must possess thorough knowledge of materials planning systems (MRP/ERP) requirements and order generation process logic. Must have knowledge to apply general use of databases/spreadsheets. Ability to complete the planning of workflow and meetings. Must have prior experience with the aerospace and defense industry (both commercial and government) serving world-wide customers. Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures. Must have strong organizational, project, and proposal management skills. Must have solid analytical skills and solution-driven thinking. Able to use large amounts of data to make strategic decisions. Must have experience in all elements of Quality, from design to assembly, integration, and testing. Must have experience with AS9100 certification, training, and audits. Must have current knowledge of manufacturing technology, productivity and quality measurements, and material/planning systems requiring continual review of methods to optimize productivity. Must have problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
