TEACHER STARTING SALARY IS $48,700. Additional Referendum money is available for the next four years starting at $5400 for the 23-24 school year; teachers hired during the school year will receive a prorated supplement amount based on the date of hire.

Job Summary

As the program develops the instructor will teach two to three classes on a 10-month, full-time contract at First Coast High School. The position will collaborate with JEA and report to the school principal or designee. In future years, the teacher will have a full course load.

Duval County Public Schools, in partnership with JEA (formerly Jacksonville Electric Authority), is offering an opportunity for high school students to learn about electricity and prepare to earn NCCER Core and Electrical licenses. The instructor will have two to three course sections along with other site and academy-related duties to fulfill the contract hours until the program is at full capacity.

The instructor will teach Florida Department of Education Program , Electricity. The ideal applicant must have a minimum of three (3) years full-time or the equivalent of part-time occupational experience in electrical occupations; a combination of electrical experience and electronics experience may also be acceptable. A blend of postsecondary education and less than three years full-time experience may also be acceptable. Additionally, candidates must possess NCCER Core and Electrical certifications or be prepared to earn them if offered the position and follow reporting and testing procedures specific to NCCER.

Essential Functions

1. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.

2. Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets with the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. Prepares for assigned classes and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.

3. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

4. Supervises students in order to protect the students from conditions harmful to learning and/or to the student's mental and/or physical health and/or safety. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

5. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, District policy and administrative regulation.

6. Diagnoses the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of District specialists as required.

7. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.

8. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.

9. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluates their job performance.

10. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (NON-DEGREED)

Proof of education and occupational expertise. Documentation must include:

a. A high school diploma or the equivalent; and b. Completion of six (6) years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) successful occupational experience in the specialization area or a bachelor's degree in a related field with two (2) years of occupational experience in the specialization area; and c. A current and active industry licensure in the designated field as identified in the curriculum framework.
