Our client is looking for a Network & Communications Specialist to work on a long-term assignment, to work near Midland, TX.

As a Network & Communications Specialist, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing automation and electrical systems associated with upstream onshore oil and gas production operations.

Responsibilities:

Maintenance and Repair:

Assume responsibility for maintaining and repairing a diverse range of automation and electrical equipment related to upstream onshore oil and gas production.



On-Site Automation Support:
Provide on-site automation support for upstream onshore oil and gas production operations.

Technical Expertise:

Serve as a technical resource for facility control systems and field instrumentation, including level, pressure, flow, vibration, and other instruments.



Compliance and Standards:
Ensure maintenance activities adhere to relevant industry and corporate Process Control standards. Follow best practices for PLC programming, standards, and management of change (MOC) procedures.

Strategic Improvement:
Identify problem areas within instrumentation and control systems, offering alternative solutions to enhance automation network design and philosophies.

Collaboration:
Work closely with cross-functional teams during design reviews and process hazard analysis.

Requirements:

  • 2-year technical degree or equivalent working experience
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years supporting radio/fiber communication networks.
  • Basic knowledge of Oil & Gas systems.
  • Basic level of understanding of automation and electrical design principles
  • Understanding of regulatory guidelines
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to perform under pressure Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Budget Advanced knowledge of fiber optic network infrastructure and components
  • Ability to install, configure, and troubleshoot network equipment Ability to work on multiple projects and meet delivery deadlines.

  • Familiarity with analog and discrete instrumentation, as well as various serial and Ethernet communication protocols.
  • Basic understanding of technical standards and guidelines (API, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, ISA, etc.).
  • Proficiency in maintaining PLC programs using function block, ladder logic, and structured text.
  • Experience with local HMI operator interfaces.

Preferred:

  • 10+ years supporting radio/fiber communication networks.
  • 5+ years oil and gas experience
  • Advanced knowledge of OPC communication
  • Advanced Expert level competency of automation communications equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of radio frequency theory and the effects of systems operating in an oil field environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of varied hardware transmission technologies including rs232, rs485, rs422, USB and Ethernet.
  • Expert computer skills (MS Office Suite, company's proprietary software, etc.).
  • Expert knowledge of network routing and switching
  • Expert knowledge of fiber optic installation, termination, and troubleshooting.
