About FIRE
The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to safeguarding the rights of all Americans to free speech and free thought. At FIRE, we are committed to upholding these fundamental freedoms for individuals in higher education.
Position Overview
As a Campus Rights Assistant, you will work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment at our national nonprofit headquarters. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage with the core functions of our organization while gaining valuable insights into civil liberties in higher education alongside experienced free speech advocates.
The Campus Rights Assistant's Responsibilities:
- Handling day-to-day operations like phone calls, mailings, and office organization.
- Conducting research on free speech issues in campus environments.
- Monitoring news and social media for developments related to campus free speech.
- Assisting with communications through activities like blogging and social media content creation.
Qualifications
Required:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Mac computers, MS Office, and Google/Gmail tools.
- Enthusiasm for and understanding of FIRE's mission.
- Interest in advocacy or legal work.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Capacity to work independently.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in administrative or office management roles.
- Demonstrated commitment to FIRE's mission.
- Nonprofit work experience.
- Strong copy editing skills.
- Leadership experience as a student.
