The Role

We are looking for someone to underwrite complex risks related to Architects and Engineers in alignment with the business strategy and within the delegated underwriting authority. The role is expected to embody our Aspen Values in all aspects of performance.

Key Accountabilities
  • Contribute to the development of functional strategies and prioritize operational tasks to support overall business targets.
  • Manage tactical plans and provide support to achieve positive results in line with the business strategy.
  • Monitor underwriting service performance to ensure cost control and predictability.
  • Develop processes to ensure alignment of underwriting functions with business needs.
  • Maintain quality assurance systems for effective control of underwriting processes.
  • Work with stakeholders to develop sustainable underwriting products and services.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders to maximize influence and support business objectives.
  • Demonstrate market awareness to enhance business performance.
  • Perform underwriting activities in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as a technical expert to support issue identification and opportunities within the area of expertise.
  • Utilize in-house underwriting database effectively.
  • Maintain the Aspen Professional Liability product line portfolio.
  • Provide guidance to Underwriting Assistants.
  • Produce reports on underwriting issues and management information.
Skills & Experience
  • Extensive experience in underwriting within a specialized/complex area.
  • Professional qualifications at degree level or equivalent.
  • Experience in supporting technical and operational strategy.
  • Experience in managing underwriting teams.
  • Knowledge of risk profiling, pricing tools, and loss models.
  • Established customer/broker relationships.
  • Thorough knowledge of market conditions for Architects & Engineers.
  • Understanding of professional liability and coverage.
  • Knowledge of coverage forms.
  • Familiarity with Aspens underwriting strategy and operational targets.
  • Knowledge of Reinsurance and Expected Profitability Analysis.
  • Understanding of legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Effective planning and collaboration skills.
  • Strong analytical abilities for data-driven decision-making.
  • People management skills to lead and engage teams.
