Job Summary
The City of Fort Collins is excited to announce an opportunity for an Inspector, Code Compliance (Nuisance), to join our Code Compliance team This is a full-time, salaried position with flexible hours during the week and primarily Monday through Friday. As a vital member of our Code Compliance team, the Inspector, Code Compliance will play a key role in ensuring the health and safety of our community. This is a civilian position with a special police commission responsible for performing education, inspection, investigation, and enforcement functions to ensure compliance with the City Municipal Code, Land Use Code (LUC), regulations, and ordinances regarding nuisance concerns and neighborhood livability issues within the City's neighborhoods and commercial properties. This position is ideal for a candidate with at least three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. We are seeking a candidate with a passion for health and safety to bring their skills in enforcement and customer service to the City
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.
- Proactively and reactively patrol assigned area to ensure nuisance, quality of life, and health and safety objectives are met.
- Work with a variety of agencies and individuals throughout the inspection/investigation process; maintaining positive relationships with various stakeholders.
- Attend neighborhood meetings/trainings, neighborhood events, and community outreach.
- Take enforcement action as required; authorize and schedule private contractors for correction or abatement and/or issue civil/criminal citations to non-compliant people/properties/construction sites.
- Serve as a resource for neighbors dealing with a chronic problem property; providing direction, education, and assistance to resolve the problem.
- Understand, interpret, apply, and articulate applicable LUC and Municipal Code.
- Present to various City or neighborhood meetings; as well as various instructional classes.
- Educate, inform, and make compliance recommendations to developers, property owners, tenants, and other interested parties.
- Strive for favorable public relations; by applying conflict resolution/de-escalation techniques.
- Maintain accurate electronic files of active/ongoing cases.
- Compile and prepare documentation of inspections for court proceedings and be articulate in explaining case findings through testimony.
- Assist various City departments with inspection, notification, and enforcement duties.
- Maintain situational awareness and observation skills while performing inspections.

Experience Requirements
- 3 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certifications/Licenses/Specialized Training
- Valid driver's license. Basic/Advanced Certification through the Colorado Association of Code Enforcement Officials (CACEO)- to be obtained.
