Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director, of Equipment Technology will be responsible for all aspects of developing and implementing the Packaging System Group (PSG)'s global unitizing equipment strategy, including accelerating new product development for automation technology, expanding product identification equipment systems into new markets, identifying key equipment suppliers in line with the overall PSG strategy, and integrating with PSG consumables (strapping and protective packaging).

The Director, of Equipment Technology willfocus on gaining an in-depth understanding of PSG's current state of:

Automation employed for product application and identification systems, standard and high-performance equipment and
The individual will understand the competitive landscape with regard to competitive metrics of equipment components and equipment performance.

Future State:

The individual will develop an understanding of state-of-the-art and next-generation production technology with the goal to lead the development of the future state of a next generation of automation in order to establish Samuel in a leadership position both on manufacturing performance, low cost, and as the leading solution provider fostering innovative solutions to customer needs including advancement to incorporate industrial 4.0 standard.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Gain a thorough understanding of the company's current state of technology and the competitive landscape.

Gain a thorough understanding of current and future industry trends – both in Samuel-focused industries and related industries in order to lead customer solutions and solve current and future customer packaging and unitizing needs.

Meet with Customers to understand packaging and unitizing requirements, metrics, packaging strategies, performance needs, and operating issues to solve.
Research and introduce new technologies and monitor emerging technology particularly industrial 4.0 applications in PSG automation.

Collaborate with the President of SPSG, manufacturing and the sales team, and the Director of BD to determine the strategic direction and be responsible for co-developing the technical strategy, and for developing and maintaining a technical roadmap that will continue to deliver technical packaging and unitizing innovation.

Develop a reliable infrastructure to assure continuous improvement as well as an infrastructure to support the future development of technology to maintain the technical edge of the company to establish the Samuel Brand as a technology company and leader in automation and industrial packaging and unitizing applications.

Provide manufacturing and commercial team technical advice and support.
Manage the company's patent portfolio.

Serve as a key member of the management team that sets the company's strategic direction with regard to technical development.

Co-develop strategic planning for the direction and control of technical application activities.
Formulate long-term objectives and standards of performance.
Be a student of current industry trends, ensuring that the company maintains and expands its technology leadership position.

Motivate staff and provide technical direction and guidance, as well as hands-on project management, recognizing the role as that of both manager and support resource/mentor.

Ensure that technical development is focused on meeting and exceeding the customer requirements.

EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related business field, master's degree is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS
10+ years of progressive leadership experience in an Industrial environment.
Demonstrated track record in product development.
"Out of the box thinker" must be a key driver contributing to the technical application and manufacturing development roadmap and willing to take innovative product risk while balancing the road map for on-time deliverables.
Competent in mechanical and process projects of varying complexities.
Strong relationship management, strategy development, project management, problem-solving, and change management skills.
Must have strong interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills, and strong attention to detail.
