Role Description

The Underwriter performs awide array of underwriting and marketing functions, demonstrating knowledge andcompetence in both relationship development and technical underwritingskills.

Underwriting functions includeanalyzing and evaluating complex risks and exposures of business submittedthrough Excess and Surplus Lines (E&S) brokers, and applying a workingknowledge of rates, forms, pricing structures, terms and conditions in primaryand excess medical malpractice lines.

The Underwriter acts in collaboration with a team of professionalswithin the branch and corporately, leveraging the company's resources toprovide a best in class response to our valued clients.

The underwriter's primarygoal is to write profitable business by applying sound and competitive pricing andpolicy structures to submitted accounts and seeking production opportunitiesthat enhance our profit objectives.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Underwriting Analysis:

The Underwriter researches and analyzes complex risks andexposures, using critical thinking skills in applying the tools and resourcesavailable to structure competitive and sound proposals.

Each underwriter contributes to our team,where discussion of account opportunities and sharing of knowledge is part ofour daily routine and manages a flow of individual risk submissions where speedof response is valued by clients.

TheUnderwriter is familiar with the application of rates, forms, pricingstructures, terms and conditions, and recognizes the direct impact eachdecision has on developing a profitable book business.



Relationship Building:
The Underwriter also concentrates on advancing existing E&Sbroker client relationships.

Seeking tobring a creative array of alternatives, options, and solutions to clients,he/she is comfortable connecting with and influencing clients at the desklevel.

In conjunction with the UnitManager's support, the Underwriter develops strategies to broaden theiropportunities through crafting sound client development plans and setting andachieving marketing goals.

TheUnderwriter uses strong negotiating skills to obtain the best financial resultsfor the Company.

Learning/Development:
The Underwriter takes an active role in increasing his/herknowledge of industry policies, principles, and newly emerging exposures byattending and actively participating in Company underwriting/technical seminarsas well as outside industry-related courses (PLUS, Crittenden, ASHRM, CPCU.)

Related Activities:

The Underwriter seeks opportunities tosupport underwriting and marketing activities / projects for the Medical Professional unit,such as assisting with new product development, cross training with other unitsand working on special client entertainment or educational events.

This caninclude serving as a mentor to a less experienced underwriter or other Companycolleagues and serving as a resource to our clients who require morecomprehensive information about the coverages we provide.
