(part-time position, up to 20 hours per week)

$15.00 per hour - various shifts available

Samuel L Felton, Jr. Valor Home in Lorain County operates as a transitional housing program designed for homeless male veterans. Our program runs 24/7, offering structured therapeutic activities throughout the week such as art and music therapy, life skills training, and stress management sessions.

Each veteran accommodated at Valor Home stays in a private room for an average of 6 to 12 months, aiming to transition into permanent housing eventually.


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: The Social Service Assistant will report to the local manager and collaborate with the Senior Support team to create a safe and engaging environment for residents, aligning with the policies and procedures of Family & Community Services to uphold high service standards and professionalism;

KEY DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Support efficient facility operations and therapeutic activities.
  • Handle inbound calls, take messages, and maintain the front office.
  • Manage office and facility supplies inventory.
  • Conduct regular fire safety checks and drills.
  • Monitor facility refrigeration levels.
  • Assist with resident intake and documentation.
  • Coordinate appointments with external agencies.
  • Promote inclusive practices and equality among residents.
  • Provide necessary support for residents' well-being and quality of life.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as needed.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with colleagues.
  • Stay updated on fire and emergency protocols.
  • Adhere to agency policies, regulations, and requirements.
  • Complete other assigned tasks.
Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrate effective communication and empathy.
  • Possess strong verbal and written skills.
  • Familiarity with community resources.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
  • Hold a valid Ohio Driver's License.
  • Undergo background check clearance.
  • Have reliable transportation and communication tools.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: Prefer CPR/First Aid Certification.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Experience in crisis intervention is advantageous.
