A hybrid schedule may be permitted after a period of training. This Data & Privacy Specialist position will require specific working knowledge of data retention schedules.

In this position,you will be responsible for ensuring proper maintenance of data privacy retention schedules for all personal data within the State of Utah Department of Commerce (Commerce).

You will also assist with the data privacy program for the department.

You must develop and maintain cooperative relationships with State,local,and private agencies especially with the various Commerce divisions and the Department of Technology Services (DTS).

** As the Data & Privacy Specialist,you will:
Work with the Information Security Manager to develop,direct,and/or evaluate the Commerce data privacy program.
Establish proper retention schedules for all personal data collected by Commerce,including reviewing current processes for accuracy and compliance
Provide consultation,make recommendations,give appropriate advice,and/or facilitate decisions related to private information and data retention
Develop,Interpret,clarify,explain,and apply agency policy and procedures,business practices,federal or state laws and regulations related to data privacy and retention
Develop and implement policies and procedures according to data privacy and retention schedule best practices
Analyze,summarize and/or review data; reports findings,interprets results and/or makes recommendations to Commerce leadership
Analyze,develop,and facilitate privacy and retention schedule training for Commerce employees
Monitor and evaluate operations,programs,processes and/or practices for quality and effectiveness; make recommendations for improvement.
Provide technical assistance on Commerce issues,services,programs,and/or computer hardware and software,etc.
Facilitate the use of research data to improve existing programs and utilization of resources.
Other duties and projects as assigned.

IDEAL CANDIDATE The best qualified candidate will have:
Knowledge of data privacy laws and regulations like CCPA,US Privacy laws,GDPR,etc.
Skills in data analysis to determine retention periods.
Abilities in communication to educate others on privacy practices.
Familiarity with database management systems for organizing data.
Attention to detail to ensure compliance and security.
Experience with training others on proper practices and procedures.
PREFERENCE Preference will be given to candidates with the following:

Bachelor s Degree in a related subject such as Data Privacy,Information Security,software development,or similar degree or two years of experience in a similar role.

Three or more years working within the Department of Commerce.

Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))
Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.

Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.

Paid Time Off:
Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual,4 hours sick).
Annual leave amounts increase with years of service.
