Role

An education support class position at this range entails tasks carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. Responsibilities may include coordinating other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.

Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years may be required at this level. A role at this range may involve:

  • Specific support tasks to achieve outcomes. This often includes accountability for a single function or the coordination of a work area under the direction of the principal or a manager.
  • Assisting teachers within an educational program by undertaking specific support tasks or coordinating support functions.
  • Technical tasks that require a sound knowledge of basic technical and/or scientific principles used to develop and adapt work methods.

An education support class position at this range starting at the base will initially focus on routine tasks carried out under close supervision. As experience is gained, the employee may progressively undertake more independent tasks such as coordination, specialized student/teacher support tasks, or technical tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Provides routine support for teachers including assisting with planning of student routines.
  • Supports communication between teachers and parents.
  • Provides basic physical care and wellbeing support for students.
  • Addresses immediate behavioral presentations relating to specific students within a classroom setting.
  • Provides support and supervision for individuals or groups of students within a classroom setting.
  • Supports teachers in coordinating educational programs and providing medical intervention support to students.
