Role

An education support class position at this range involves performing tasks in accordance with guidelines and school policy under supervision. This may include coordinating other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.

An education support class position supports the educational services to students, excluding duties of a teacher as defined by the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. This position may involve supervision of students individually or in groups of up to 4 in controlled circumstances with the teacher's clear responsibility.

Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years may be required at this level, with exceptions noted.

A role at this range may include:

  • Specific support tasks to achieve outcomes
  • Assisting teachers in educational programs by undertaking specific support tasks
  • Supervised health and wellbeing support tasks
  • Technical tasks that require knowledge of basic technical and/or scientific principles

An education support class position at this range will initially involve undertaking routine tasks under close supervision. Progressively, the employee may undertake more responsibilities with experience in the role.

  • Provides support for teachers, including assisting with student routines
  • Supports communication between teachers and parents
  • Communicates with teachers on routine student matters
  • Provides basic physical care and wellbeing support for students
  • Communicates with students to support basic tasks and information
  • Addresses immediate behavioral presentations in alignment with school policy
  • Provides support and supervision for students within a classroom setting
  • Supports teachers in coordinating educational programs
  • Provides medical intervention support to students
  • Provides specialized communication support for students and teachers
