Description:
The NREL is looking to bring on board a Post-Doctoral Researcher for U.S. Department of Energy-funded R&D projects focused on developing thermal energy storage and hydrogen technology applications. The role involves collaborating with a team of engineers and scientists in the Thermal Systems R&D Group within the Energy Conversion and Storage Systems (ECaSS) Center. Ideal candidates should be working toward or have recently obtained a Ph.D. in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
- Design and analyze thermal energy storage systems, conduct prototype testing, and analyze data.
- Develop modeling tools and testing procedures using engineering software and hardware.
- Utilize computational modeling for hydrogen production and storage.
- Prepare technical reports, contribute to project review meetings, and publish research findings.
Basic Qualifications:
Must have completed a Ph.D. within the last three years and meet educational requirements before the employment start date.
Additional Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge of energy system design and computational model analysis using engineering software.
- Strong background in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and design software like ANSYS and SolidWorks.
- Experience in thermal energy storage, multiphase systems, and energy technology development.
- Understanding of machine learning, thermal system performance, and technoeconomic analysis.
- Familiarity with laboratory work, testing instrumentation, and software tools like LabView.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior research experience in energy storage technology, particularly in solar and thermal energy systems.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills in design, testing, and modeling using engineering software.
- Strong communication skills, creativity, adaptability, and motivation in a research team setting.
- Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) is a plus.
Salary Range:
Annual salary range for the position of Post-Doctoral Researcher at NREL is between $73,200 and $120,800, based on a full-time 40-hour work week.
