Job Summary:
- The Assistant Nurse Manager is a registered professional nurse who provides support and works in conjunction with the Nurse Manager of a specific unit(s) or service. Viewed as aspiring to be a nurse manager, this role involves learning additional knowledge and skills through experience and mentoring.
Responsibilities:
- Must possess strong skills in communication and teamwork, serving as a mentor while learning the responsibilities of the role.
- Collaborates with the Nurse Manager to promote the creation of a center of excellence for staff recruitment, retention, and clinical and business outcomes.
- Upholds the Nurse Manager's direction, actively leads staff in daily activities, and participates in performance reviews, coaching, and counseling.
- Holds staff accountable for the delivery of care and services through effective communication and management of specific interventions/practices and their outcomes.
- Plays a significant role in achieving clinical and financial goals, as well as in staff recruitment, mentoring, and retention.
Qualifications:
- Must be a licensed RN with knowledge of nursing practice standards.
- Expected to uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by professional standards and codes of ethics.
Core Responsibilities:
- Engages staff in decision-making and promotes patient-centered care and service excellence.
- Supports the Nurse Manager as a designee, providing leadership and management skills for a specific unit(s).
- Assists in budget development, monitors fiscal outcomes, and implements lean and quality skills to improve operations.
- Effectively communicates with the workforce, fosters teamwork, and creates opportunities for self and staff growth.
- Promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) required, Master's Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Valid RN license, Basic Life Support certification, and additional relevant certifications.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience with excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
