How Youll Make an Impact

The Budget Analyst position will provide financial planning and analysis support to the research and development department and manage all global operational and capital expenses by consolidating and analyzing results, monitoring variances, identifying trends and recommending actions to management. This position will also help facilitate and organize the annual budgeting process for the R&D department; as well as assist the R&D department in financial administrative functions such as creating purchase requisitions, capital appropriations, and invoice processing.We need a quick learner who can become a subject matter expert in our operations environment. In the role, you would be responsible for:

  • Analyzing and understanding spending variances, recognize spending patterns and/or anomalies and predict (forecast) annualized year end spend of the R&D operational expense budget, which is approximately $20M. Communicate and present data findings and forecasts in a concise and understandable method to management and provide monthly spend forecasts, documenting any changes from prior months forecasts to finance.
  • Analyzing and understanding spending variances, recognize spending patterns and/or anomalies and predict (forecast) annualized year end spend of the R&D capital budget. Understand capital project spending requirements, and document R&D capital projects and complete the authorization for expenditure (AFE) process.
  • Completing R&D financial month end closing process of closing AFEs and booking the corresponding assets, review postings for correct coding and complete invoice amortizations as needed, submit accruals for all work completed that has not been processed within the month, submit reversals for accruals that are no longer required.
  • Facilitating the annual strategic planning and monthly forecasting process for capital and operational expenses.
  • Performing other departmental financial administrative tasks as necessary, including purchase requisitions and invoice payments.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as determined by Valvoline from time to time in its sole discretion.

What Youll Need

  • Associates Degree or Bachelor Degree
  • Minimum of two years of professional business experience.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Word)
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, demonstrating the ability to articulate ideas and thoughts clearly through various means, including written and oral communications within a multi-level organization
  • Comfort dealing with ambiguity and the ability to work independently or as part of a collaborative team
  • Highly accurate with strong attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask various requests or projects, meet deadlines and proactively communicating status updates.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills demonstrating the ability to quickly grasp new concepts
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
