GENERAL PURPOSE:

Performs professional work in the Parks and Recreation department. Instructs group exercise aerobic classes for members of the community. Work is performed under general supervision with limited latitude. Position exercises some judgment in accordance with well-defined policies, procedures, and techniques.

The Group Exercise Instructor is an at-will position and the hours per week will be determined by the number of classes taught.

The hourly rate is between $35-$45/class based on the type of class taught and the instructor's level of experience.

Designs and instructs group exercise classes; including, but not limited to, structured 32 count choreographed aerobics class formats and choreographyDesigns, and comes prepared to teach with, program-specific music playlists for group exercise classesPerforms room/equipment setup and breakdown for each scheduled group exercise classPromotes the group exercise program to all members/prospective members and encourage increased participation in all classesProvides direction and assistance to users of the group exercise classesAbility to offer modifications of exercise for various fitness abilitiesAssists in the development of fitness and wellness activitiesPerforms cleaning/maintenance tasks within the group exercise studio before and after scheduled classesPerforms other related duties as assigned and/or required Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


National Group Exercise Instructor Certification from an accredited institution; supplemented by at least one (1) year experience in the fitness/aerobics field.

Must have a valid state of Florida driver license, class E.Must have a current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.

*The City reserves the right to consider alternate combinations of education, certification, training, and/or experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds).

Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment.

Tasks may involve some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Tasks may involve extended periods of time standing.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks are regularly performed inside without potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Some tasks require manual dexterity, in addition to visual and hearing acuity

Eligibility List Criteria:


An eligibility list shall be valid for six months (may be extended up to two years at the City's discretion), or until the list is abolished, whichever comes first.

The list is formed based on applicants who meet the minimum qualifications. Applicants on the eligibility list will be given consideration for each vacancy. Veterans' Preference shall be awarded, pursuant to Florida Statutes.

Applicants with disabilities who will need special accommodations for testing must advise Human Resources not later than one (1) week prior to scheduled testing, so that appropriate arrangements can be madePENSION/RETIREMENT PLAN The City participates in the Florida Retirement System (FRS), which offers a choice of either a Pension Plan (defined benefit) or an Investment Plan (defined contribution)*.

The City contributes an amount to the selected plan that is determined by the State Legislature.

In addition, employees make a bi-weekly mandatory contribution, as determined by State Legislature (currently 3% of eligible earnings), through payroll deduction on a pre-tax basis.

Employees in the Pension plan are vested according to the date of membership in the FRS.

Employees who begin FRS participation prior to July 1, 2011 are vested after six (6) years of FRS - covered service.

Employees who begin FRS participation after July 1, 2011 are vested after eight (8) years of service. The Pension Plan benefit is determined based on a multiplier and average salary of the employee's highest paid years. The number of paid years and normal retirement guidelines are determined by the date of membership.
The Investment Plan benefit is based on the performance of selected funds over time.

There is no age requirement that must be met to receive a benefit under the Investment Plan; vesting is after one (1) year of service.*Employees who are currently retired and have received retirement benefits from the FRS will not be eligible for a retirement benefit, pursuant to state legislation.

The City also offers a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan with ICMA, which allows voluntary employee contributions up to the maximum amount defined by federal legislation with additional contributions allowed for employees at least 50 years of age.

Traditional and Roth IRA Plans are also available for employees to make contributions through payroll deduction.

This position offers no additional employment benefits, i.e., there are no provisions for health insurance, paid time off, or any other benefit not specifically included in the employment agreement.01 Each applicant must complete this supplemental questionnaire as a part of the application screening and selection process.
