HR Business Partner Position at Stony Brook University

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Five years of full-time HR experience
  • Two years of advising mid to high-level management
  • Experience with HR protocols and compliance
  • Liaising with employee relations matters
  • Experience with Applicant Tracking Systems and Microsoft Office Suite proficiency

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree
  • Professional HR certification
  • Six years of full-time HR experience
  • Experience in a unionized workplace
  • Experience as an HR generalist or HR business partner
  • One year of supervisory experience
  • Experience with Human Resources Information System (HRIS)
  • Knowledge of employment laws, including Title VII, Family Medical Leave, ADA, and more
  • Experience in public sector employment or higher education

Description of Duties:

The HR Business Partner is responsible for managing various HR functions to support Stony Brook's mission. This includes serving as the primary HR liaison to the Division, providing consultative HR services, and ensuring compliance with HR policies and bargaining agreements. The role involves managing workplace conflicts, fostering a positive work environment, and collaborating on employee and labor relations.
