The Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse (APRN) is in charge of providing behavioral health services to clients at assigned locations, including nursing homes. The APRN offers behavioral health care to a caseload of clients referred by the center's Primary Care clinicians and gives advice to Primary Care and the IDT on behavioral health matters.

  • Performs psychiatric assessments and offers psychopharmacology management with psychotherapeutic assistance to clients, as well as individual and group psychotherapy in specific instances, and provides behavioral health advice to other disciplines.
  • Serves as an example for professional relationships, effective communication, and teamwork.
  • Conducts regular and immediate psychiatric assessments.
  • Creates clinically appropriate behavioral health treatment plans.
  • Applies evidence-based and best practice psychiatric interventions.
  • Monitors clients' reactions to psychotropic drugs and other interventions, making adjustments to plans as needed.
  • Records interventions, medication plans, and rationale/response in the EHR.
  • Offers behavioral health advice and assistance to the Interdisciplinary Team to enhance team members' ability to incorporate psychiatric concepts/skills into care delivery.
  • Participates in projects within the Behavioral Health program to improve clinical practice, teamwork, and program growth.
  • Fills in for Behavioral Health peers when necessary.
  • Must be able to pass a fit test. The role requires a mask where a secure seal is crucial. The incumbent must not have facial hair that hinders a tight seal of the respirator.
  • Other necessary tasks.

Job Specifications:
  • Master's degree as a psychiatric/mental health Clinical Nurse Specialist or Nurse Practitioner, or ANCC certification as NP with over 5 years of psychiatric experience and prescribing psychotropics.
  • License to practice in the Commonwealth of MA as a Registered Nurse/Advanced Practice Nurse with prescribing privileges.
  • ANCC certification as a Psychiatric/Mental Health NP or CNS.
  • 2-5 years of experience in an advanced practice role with prescriptive responsibilities.
  • Minimum of 1 year working with the elderly.
  • Evidence of proficiency in assessing and treating older adults, including psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, crisis evaluations, and consultations with caregivers.
