General Summary:
This manager is accountable for the management of all Maintenance and Engineering staff in the service of multiple locations across Holy Cross Health. The Plant Operations Manager is responsible for the daily operations of maintenance and engineering. Emphasis on daily operations to include full compliance with all state, federal, and local codes as well The Joint Commission. The Plant Operations Manager will be responsible for managing and assisting in the contracting of purchased services related to the physical plant to ensure proper stewardship of hospital resources. The Plant Operations Manager will be the liaison with all department leaders for the oversight of purchased service contracts such as grounds maintenance, utilities, supplies, and equipment, along with responsibility for maintaining the hospital preventative and corrective work order systems, as well as maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and staff. The Plant Operations manager is responsible for all aspects of staff development including staff productivity, annual reviews, filling vacancies, managing overtime, conflict resolution, and/or corrective action. The Plant Operations manager is accountable for assisting & supporting the director in managing the non-labor expense budget.
Supports the Mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Health.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- College degree preferred but a high school graduate with courses in shop, arithmetic, mechanics, electricity, and general science are acceptable.
- Three year's experience in maintenance administration or construction project management, including supervisory experience. Prior experience should be diverse enough to enable the individual to effectively supervise a majority of the trades to include; Electrical, Mechanical, Carpentry, HVAC, Painting, and Engineering,
- Knowledge of National Fire Protection Agency, and JCAHO, pertaining to buildings, and plant.
- Ability to organize tasks, and provide leadership to ensure an effective preventive maintenance program, construction management, and repair services.
- Good interpersonal relationship skills, and ability to interface with other departments within the hospital.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, construction specifications, and mechanical drawings.
- Proficient computer skills using software such as; Word, Excel, Microsoft Scheduling etc.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills. A manager at Holy Cross Hospital is expected to understand their fiduciary responsibility to the community, demonstrate fidelity to the hospital, and operate consistently with its ethics and mission in their performance of their job duties. These duties include the management of human resources and systems to safely produce high quality care, patient and physician satisfaction, and sustainability. Managers generally have 24-hour responsibility for the operation of a division and its services as well as responsibility for coordinating achievements or responding to challenges across multiple divisions within the organization. Managers demonstrate ethical behavior, leadership capability, fiscal responsibility, excellent analytical and communication skills, and the ability to select, train and retain management employees. Appropriate leadership at this level requires recognition that long-term, sound working relationships across the organization and with our partners (medical staff, insurers, and community) are necessary. Successful managers will have a constant awareness of how they are impacting these relationships through individual decisions and communications. Constant improvement of the performance of the managers division and monitoring alignment with the budget, operating and strategic plans are primary responsibilities of the assistant director. A manager selects, develops and mentors a performance oriented and responsive team that will ensure that the necessary divisional resources are available and focused to support Holy Cross Hospital and its management in a highly competitive market. Participation in setting organizational policy and adapting that policy as necessary is expected of each assistant director. Once policy is set, the manager is accountable for ensuring the application of policies across the organization. Working Conditions:Physical Requirements: Heavy work. exerting up to30 pounds of force occasionally.Visual Acuity: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
Environmental Conditions: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level. The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation. The worker is frequently in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small enclosed rooms, small sewage and line pipes, and other areas that could cause claustrophobia.
