Patient Financial Specialist reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.


This position will have comprehensive knowledge of patients' needs and will work in partnership with the physicians and clinical staff to ensure smooth and efficient delivery of care.

The Patient Financial Specialist is responsible for ensuring all services are charged accurately and timely.

This position will have comprehensive knowledge of CPT and ICD coding and health insurance patient billing and will field patient phone calls, work toward resolving problems and update all demographic and insurance information.

This position performs scheduling, medical record documentation and clerical functions in an accurate and timely manner, delivering the highest level of customer service over the phone and in person.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Previous experience with health insurance patient billing
  • Excellent customer awareness and strong commitment to fulfilling customer needs
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced environment
  • Thorough understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, HMOs, PPOs and private insurance companies
  • Understanding of ICD9 and CPT coding
  • Familiar with practice management systems and data entry skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of medical office experience
