The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida's social services agency.

Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services.

The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is a 216 bed, all male, forensic, mental health rehabilitation facility.

The Center is located in northeast Gainesville, Florida on 639 picturesque acres with regular sightings of deer, turkey and other wildlife.

NFETC employs a variety of entry level to leadership positions including food service, maintenance, direct care, nurses, counselors, rehab therapists, medical doctors, security, psychiatrists, and psychologists.

This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve as Chaplain- F/C- OPS .

T his position will collaborate with each section within the state facilities and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities and should be extraordinarily detail oriented.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • This is professional work providing an array of religious services to resident and family customers.
  • Provides customer satisfaction through personally conducted religious services, devotionals, Bible studies, religious instruction, and counseling. Provides weekend services on a rotation basis. This includes all preparation to provide these services.
  • Responsible for Welfare Trust Fund Budgets. Creating, monitoring, and reconciling the accounts. Responsible for returning receipts and changa to the Mirage Mall bank.
  • Responsible for all Religious Services equipment, inventory of supplies and the care of the chapel. Submits work orders for repairs when needed.
  • Assists with Individuals complaint calls, investigates, and resolves problems or complaints surfaced by residents or their families to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Conducts resident satisfaction surveys. Gives assistance to residents in completing forms. Ensures data is completed monthly.
  • Coordinates special religious observances for holidays that are observed by the major religious groups represented in the resident population to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Assists in all special events coordinated by Volunteer Services. This may include planning, promoting, setting up, decorating, implementing, and clean up.
  • Supervises, monitors, recruits and schedules with religious volunteers who provide service for residents.
  • Provides opportunities to residents for community outings to local churches, Faith & Sharing or other religious events.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
  • Performs funerals, memorial services, grief counseling and supportive ministries if called on at the time of the death of a resident.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position:

  • Knowledge of theological theories, philosophies and systems.
  • Knowledge of counseling and interviewing techniques.
  • Ability to conduct a variety of religious services and activities.
  • Ability to provide counseling or guidance to others.
  • Ability to conduct fact-finding interviews.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in theology, religion, education, or one of the social or behavioral sciences, or graduation from a seminary or school of theology.
  • Must be ordained.
  • Must possess a current written approbation or endorsement by the appropriate official of the ecclesiastical body.
  • One year of experience in conducting religious services or in providing counseling or guidance relating to the ministry.
