The Water Resources Department is looking for a talented data scientist to lead and enhance the work of the Surface Water Section. If you are passionate about responsible water management and technical innovation, this role might be perfect for you.

About Us:

The Surface Water Hydrology Section provides expertise on surface water and water usage in Oregon, supporting programs such as Hydrographics, Water Use & Evapotranspiration, Field Hydrology, and Surface Water Availability. By working together with different teams, the section plays a crucial role in providing essential data for water management.

Purpose of Position

What you will do:

  • Lead Surface Water Data Developer: Define and implement data analytics strategies, create and deploy models, and oversee data science projects.
  • Collaboration and coordination: Work closely with stakeholders to identify data needs and develop solutions.
  • Develop data manipulation toolkit: Utilize SQL, R, and Python to manipulate data sets efficiently.
  • Quality assurance/quality control: Establish protocols for data quality and maintain data pipelines.
  • File and data management: Develop standards for organizing files and upholding data integrity.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four years of relevant experience in Data Science, Hydrolology, Geology, Engineering, or related fields.
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Hydrology, Geology, or a related field.
  • Alternatively, three additional years of pertinent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in at least one programming language.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental data structures and databases.
  • Experience with natural resources data sets and software such as R, Python, and ArcGIS.
  • Ability to design and implement protocols within a team.
  • Experience in project planning and management.

Working Conditions:

This role involves primarily working at a computer station, occasional lifting, and interacting with customers. Flexibility, stress management, and occasional travel are also part of the job.

Salary Information:

Monthly salary ranges from $5,747 to $8,831. Additional benefits include exceptional plans, leaves, paid holidays, and membership benefits.
