Description

The Team Leader of Deposit Operations and Payments oversees the day-to-day operations of the Deposit Ops and Payment Services team, which includes managing ATM, ACH, and checking transactions, as well as Bill Pay and RDC supporting the Online and Mobile banking platform. This role serves as a subject matter expert on all payment-related services, including initiatives and projects related to these operations. Team Leader Deposit Operations and Payments will possess extensive knowledge of the Payments Industry, including mobile payment systems, ACH, and the Federal Reserve. Additionally, they will demonstrate a strong understanding of association rules, such as Reg E, Reg CC, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), NACHA, and Check 21. Compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements for relevant functional areas falls within positions purview, and they maintain an awareness of regulatory requirements within the banking industry.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the foremost authority for the Payments, ACH, and other Item Processing related areas of the Credit Union.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Deposit Ops and Payments teams, overseeing check and ACH processing, wire transfers, P2P, online bill pay, and mobile deposits, including change management, new product implementation, and process improvement.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Payment Services (ACH, Wire, RDC, Bill Pay) departmental policies and procedures, including policy creation, editing, and modification.
  • Responsible for vendor accountability relating to service levels and security; establishes and recommends fee structures for all electronic products, ensuring they meet the Credit Union's objectives and policies.
  • Manage team that will handle the disputes and resolution process, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations while optimizing member experience.
  • Manage all payment services and delivery processes to enhance member experience and maximize organizational resources.
  • Collaborate with Risk and Compliance to establish a comprehensive Payments compliance oversight program, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor daily processing to ensure timely completion, goal achievement, and regulation compliance.
  • Provide reports on deposit operations and payment activities, tracking trends and losses, monitoring activity, and delivering formal management reports.
  • Collaborate with Retail Services, Operations, and the Virtual Center to address escalated payment, item processing (checks/ACH), RDC, Wires and Bill Pay issues.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or related field; MBA a plus.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in deposit operations and payment services card, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience with deposit processing systems, online banking platforms, and other technology tools used in deposit operations.
  • Requires a strong working knowledge of National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) regulations, North Carolina Credit Union Law and Rules and Regulations, Regulation E, Regulation CC, NACHA, Check 21, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) rules, and other applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing back-office deposition operations involving complex processing (checks, ACH, wires, account reconciliation, fraud prevention and detection as well excellent member relationship.
  • Highly proficient in using business software applications including, but not limited to, MS Office and applications like Fedline Web/Advantage, WITS Pathfinder, P2P applications such as Paymentus, Ensenta (RDC)and core banking applications (Symitar preferred).
  • Ability to think strategically, solve complex problems, and make sound decisions with the ability to anticipate and mitigate risks and drive innovative solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams to achieve goals.
  • Excellent communication and people skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
