The Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems Extension (CAVS-E), headquartered in Canton, MS, maintains a strong interaction with industry and is focused on providing engineering services to manufacturing-based industries.

Major activities include teaching professional development workshops, conducting on-site projects and technology transfer.

The center's ultimate objective is to assist the state in technology based economic development through projects and training with MS companies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The individual serves under the general direction of the Director of CAVS-Extension located in Canton, MS. The following describes the general duties and responsibilities required of the position.

  • Perform engineering activities in support of industrial clients and the needs of other key public sector stakeholders to support expanding economic development activities within the state and region.
  • Candidate must have expertise in an engineering discipline with a strong emphasis on the application of engineering principles within the context of advanced manufacturers.
  • Knowledge and expertise in the application of Lean and/or Six Sigma principles in the manufacturing environment.
  • Manages multiple projects to successful completion. This includes the use of project and resource planning techniques to ensure projects are completed timely and efficiently.
  • Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the work on major projects or provides a supporting role to others on projects.
  • Stays abreast of new technical methods and developments affecting the unit for the purpose of recommending improvements or developing new programs.
  • Develop and enhance relationships with potential clients including private industry, state, and federal agencies.
  • May initiate new project concepts and seek funding.
  • Develops technical proposals and makes presentations to potential customers/sponsors.
  • Participate in major funding proposal preparation.
  • Publish results, as appropriate, in technical reports, popular literature (e.g., business journals, economic development articles, and websites), and refereed publications (e.g., conference proceedings and journal articles).
Minimum Qualifications:

Research Engineer III
B.S.

in engineering or computer science; Four years of professional experience in a related area; requires two years at previous level or equivalent.

Senior Research Engineer
B.S.

in engineering or computer science; Six or more years of professional experience in a related area; requires two years at previous level or equivalent.
