Overview: Linvilla Orchards is looking for an experienced director to oversee our Hayrides and Grounds (HG) Department. This role is essential for maintaining the beauty, functionality, and safety of our expansive 350- acre property. The HG department operates year- round tackling a wide range of tasks in all weather conditions. As the HG Director, you will manage a full-time team of roughly five people and a seasonal staff of up to thirty employees, overseeing grounds maintenance, hayrides, firewood production, trash removal, and more. This position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on our beloved community destination.

Responsibilities:
  • Write and manage employee schedules based on demand and season.
  • Hire, mentor, and train team members in a positive environment.
  • Monitor staff productivity and ensure safety standards.
  • Participate in meetings and complete required training.
  • Maintain communication with employees, managers, and the office.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment usage.
Grounds and Landscaping:
  • Manage and maintain approximately 350 acres, including landscaping and grounds.
  • Schedule, plan, and coordinate grounds staff.
  • Oversee mowing, landscaping, and garden maintenance.
  • Train employees on safe equipment use and maintenance.
  • Communicate with the maintenance shop to ensure equipment is well-maintained.
  • Assist with storm cleanup and removal of unused items from the central area.
  • Care for trees, shrubs, flowers, and lawns.
  • Strategically manage and harvest wooded land.
Hayrides and Train Rides:
  • Oversee the hayride program and train rides, ensuring safety and proper scheduling.
  • Coordinate with the office for scheduling and bookings.
  • Train and manage hayride and train operators.
  • Ensure all equipment is checked before use and properly maintained.
  • Schedule drivers for various events and peak seasons.
Firewood, Chips, Mulch, and Compost:
  • Oversee production and management of firewood, wood chips, mulch, and compost.
  • Train employees on equipment use and maintenance.
  • Perform routine maintenance on associated equipment.
  • Manage retail wood products
  • Assist with incoming/outgoing deliveries of firewood, chips, mulch, and compost.
Trash and Recycling:
  • Oversee trash and recycling removal year-round.
  • Ensure grounds are clean and bins are emptied daily.
  • Collect shopping carts and empty bio buckets.
General Moving and Departmental Support:
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of exhibits, festivals, and events.
  • Support various departments with tasks requiring manual labor or equipment operation.
Requirements

Job Requirements:
  • Strong leadership skills with a minimum of five years of management experience.
  • Previous landscaping experience required.
  • Highly organized and able to work well with employees at all levels.
  • Proven ability to hire, train, evaluate, and manage people.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Windows-based applications preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience with industrial hand and power tools, forklift, and tractors preferred.
  • Physically able to perform job duties including walking, standing, stooping, bending, and lifting.
  • Must have normal hearing and vision (with or without correction).
  • Must be free of illegal or illicit drug dependency.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma required.
  • Forklift certification and tractor experience preferred but not required.
