American Red Cross is currently in search of a Gift Planning Officer to provide support to the North and South Carolina Regions. This remote position can be based anywhere within the region.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

The Gift Planning Unit at the American Red Cross aims to secure planned gifts to support various aspects of the organization's mission and establish Red Cross as the preferred charity for such contributions. Reporting to the Director of Gift Planning, the Gift Planning Officer will develop and execute the gift planning program within the North and South Carolina Regions, focusing on acquiring new gift commitments. Responsibilities include identifying, qualifying, nurturing, soliciting, and stewarding gift-planning prospects and donors in the Region, aiming to enhance funding capacity, and strengthen donor relationships.

  • Develops and oversees the gift planning strategy for a portfolio of prospects throughout the Regions to support Red Cross programs and services.
  • Develops, leads, and implements strategies to significantly expand membership of the Legacy Society.
  • Enhances a stewardship program for all planned giving donors; raising and reinforcing the profile of the Legacy Society.
  • Provides training on gift planning to enhance knowledge and create opportunities in gift discussions and strategy formation.
  • Stays updated on gift planning trends and fundraising methods by attending meetings, conferences, and training sessions.
  • Offers technical assistance to the Regions development team to boost fundraising capacity to solicit planned and current gifts.
  • Collaborates with local financial planning and estate planning associations to organize meetings that reinforce Red Cross' position as the preferred charity for bequests, trusts, retirement funds, life insurance policies, and life income arrangements.
  • Ensures proper reporting by the Regions of all estate documents to the Office of General Counsel.
  • Engages regularly with the Director of Gift Planning regarding donor and gift activity, utilizing development prospect management systems for reporting and goal management.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required, and an advanced degree is preferred.
  • At least five years of experience in major gift or gift planning fundraising, with successful cultivation and solicitation experience.
  • Knowledge of the technical aspects of planned giving vehicles and extensive understanding of fundraising principles in a large organization.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong interpersonal skills and negotiation abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, tact, and diplomacy in sensitive situations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with gift planning software.
  • Operational flexibility to meet business needs and ability to travel as required, including owning transportation and possessing a valid driver's license.
  • Familiarity with Red Cross' corporate culture is advantageous.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sitting, using hands to handle or feel, talking or hearing regularly.
  • Frequent reaching with hands and arms, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving of moderate weight.
  • Ordinary ambulatory skills and ability to work in a small cubicle and at a computer terminal for extended periods.
  • Overall mobility, including driving a vehicle and working in challenging conditions.

WHAT WILL GIVE YOU THE COMPETITIVE EDGE:

Significant gift-planning experience in North and South Carolina is advantageous. Certification in CFRE, CFP, CAP, J.D., LLM is highly preferred.
