Purpose of Position

The Grant Program Director will provide vision, leadership, and direction for the State Office of Rural Health (SORH) program. This state program focuses on establishing and maintaining relationships with rural communities, state-based organizations, and health providers. The position is involved in developing and maintaining goals for grant-funded projects as well as collaborating with other CRH programs to further the mission, development and standing of the CRH. This position reports to the CRH Acting Director and is significantly grant-funded.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide grant(s) project direction and leadership.
    • Provide leadership, oversight and supervision of grant-funded rural health activities/projects as Grant Program Director and Principal Investigator.
    • Direct multiple grant work plans; coordinate with partners; and develop, update, and report on State Office of Rural Health (SORH) statewide efforts for North Dakota.
    • Grant administration.
    • Supervise and mentor program staff including continued professional development, annual staff performance reviews, and creating a positive and productive work environment.
    • Internal to CRH, actively engage with others in multi-program collaboration and development.
  • Function as a rural health content specialist in support of specific grant programs and Center for Rural Health activities.
    • Serve as the key point of contact for the North Dakota State Office of Rural Health (SORH).
    • Set direction and manage outreach functions for the SORH.
    • Establish and maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders.
    • Facilitate the expansion and strengthening of local, state, regional, and national partnerships.
    • Attend and make presentations at state, regional, and national conferences.
    • Serve on national, state, CRH, and UND committees, boards, and/or task forces.
    • Promote CRH and SORH activities and functions.
    • Lead rural health activities/projects including Scrubs Camps, Scrubs Academy, Dakota Conference on Rural and Public Health, Community Health Needs Assessments, and others.
    • Lead and facilitate HIPAA training and loan resources dissemination.
    • Build collaborative partnerships that enhance Center for Rural Health status and reputation as a leader in rural health development.
  • Participate in professional activities and contribute to the success and good standing of the Center for Rural Health.
    • Work for the good order and reputation of the School of Medicine & Health Sciences, the Center for Rural Health, and the broader University of North Dakota community.
    • Facilitate and coordinate internal CRH program collaboration(s) that contribute to synergy, reduce redundancy and duplication, and creates efficiency within CRH. Work to build multi-program collaboration, team building, and understanding.
    • Provide input to CRH leadership serving as a resource on rural health issues and concerns; rural hospital, Rural health clinics, quality, and EMS trends; national and state health policy; and overall health care trends.

  • Must be willing to travel within North Dakota frequently. Will attend national, regional, or local events/meetings.
Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree.
  • Five years of experience working in health and/or human service grant program coordination, project management, or similar work.
  • Five years of experience working with rural health and community systems.
  • Five years experience working with program development and/or community engagement/outreach.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in public administration, sociology, business or health related field.
  • Experience with federal grant administration at the PI level, including grant writing and budget/expenditure tracking.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Familiarity with UND policy and procedures.
  • Experience with Center for Rural Health projects and activities.
