Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The School of Education is an academic unit reporting to the Provost. The School is a major center of research, teaching, and public service within the State of North Carolina, the nation, and the world. The School offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate programs. The mission of the School of Education is to conduct research, and generate basic and applied knowledge about human development, educational technology and entrepreneurship, teaching and learning, school counseling, school psychology, administration, as well as educational policy and leadership; prepare leaders in the profession of education by conducting outstanding research, teaching, and service; and assist in the development of strong and effective public schools in North Carolina. In order to fulfill its mission, the School is organized into three academic divisions: (1) Culture, Curriculum, & Teacher Education (CCATE), (2) Learning, Development & Psychological Sciences (LDPS), and (3) Educational Policy, Organization, & Leadership (EPOL).

Position Summary:

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

As a School of Education’s EdIT Team member, the Systems Administrator will be responsible for both production and development systems, software, and related infrastructure. This position will facilitate technology design, implementation, administration, automation, and maintenance activities for the School of Education IT infrastructure and various strategies deployed to support this infrastructure. Managing these infrastructures includes maintaining and managing APIs and other data pulls into various platforms including data visualization software. This role includes project leadership and consultation across technical platforms, evaluating new technologies and services to implement or customize for use by the School of Education, and integrating within established frameworks to support technology and infrastructure for School of Education services.

The Systems Administrator plays a crucial role in developing an IT infrastructure in an environment that strives to leverage emerging technology while providing a reliable system experience for users. This role requires a methodical testing and validation process to ensure the stability and security of our IT infrastructure . EdIT aims to participate in research and development activities to test new information technologies to enhance the School of Education IT infrastructure to increase the organization’s functionality and productivity. The position will develop, test, and recommend solutions for technology infrastructure design across vendor platforms to adapt existing resources for new and innovative approaches to the organization’s needs and development.

The position works with UNC-CH School of Education staff and faculty to address their business needs. The Systems Administrator regularly shares progress with stakeholders, seeking input as they lead projects to improve, repair, and upgrade our IT infrastructure . The University is a Microsoft campus, and the School of Education strives to elevate its use of Power Platform technologies to improve institutional efficiency. This role includes consultation for users on various parts of the Microsoft 365 environment and providing resources to ensure users are utilizing the resources in UNC compliant methods. The Systems Administrator supports users and the technology throughout a project’s lifetime and resolving problems that arise.

The UNC-CH School of Education is a leader in classroom design and implementation. This position will manage, support, and monitor our Hyflex classroom and conference room to ensure reliability and uptime. These room implementations involve complex network configurations for routing and broadcast with a GVE control server and Zoom room setups. This role is instrumental in keeping these highly capable rooms functioning properly and requires this role to plan modifications as technology evolves.

This position will act as tier-two support and backup tier-one support for the School of Education and support EdIT members to ensure that even the most challenging scenarios can be resolved promptly and efficiently.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Master’s or Bachelors and 0-2 years’ experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

* Systems administration experience with Windows and MacOS operating systems
* Experience working with Active Directory, SCCM and JAMF
* Experience with Windows Server system administration
* Experience deploying servers in a virtualization environment (VMWare or equivalent)
* Knowledge of network standards and protocols.
* Demonstrated experience adopting and adhering to best for testing, deployments, and procedures
* Ability to work independently
* Demonstrated experience in problem solving and solution development
* Demonstrated customer support experience
* Possess verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with technical and non-technical personnel at various organizational levels
* Able to provide after-hours support when needed for scheduled maintenance or repairs
* A strong understanding of Microsoft 365 technologies, including SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Forms, Power Automate, Lists, and Power Apps
