Holyoke Community College invites applications for general manager of its college radio station, 103.5 WCCH. Our ideal candidate will bring a combination of technical knowledge, interest in working in a community college setting, and a passion for maintaining the art of terrestrial broadcasting in the twenty-first century. Technical duties include maintaining station equipment and ensuring FCC compliance. The general manager also works closely with the faculty Radio Club advisor to provide students the opportunity to experience broadcast media as a means for personal and academic growth. The General Station manager takes care of the technical, administrative, and facilities tasks associated with the station, which includes: Ensuring that the station is consistently on the air.Ensuring that station is consistently streaming.Overseeing the technical aspects of programming.Overseeing equipment purchase and maintenance.Helping to create and maintain the station budget.Meeting all FCC reporting requirements.Working with A&F to maintain all necessary memberships.Works with facilities to maintain station’s physical space.Facilitating collaboration with local public media outlets. Promoting the station as a campus resource. The General Station manager also works closely with students to: Create a broadcast schedule.Train students re: working at the station.Works with students to create programming and PSAs.Works with the student manager to keep the station spaces organized and inviting.Works with the student manager to maintain physical media collections (vinyl, CDs, etc).REQUIRED:
Experience working with broadcast media, including programming for terrestrial radio, podcasting, and streaming;Ability to work with a variety of radio station equipment, including sound board, audio processor, emergency alert system, as well as podcast recording equipment;Ability to work with a variety of relevant software, including broadcast software, streaming software, and Google Suite;Ability to troubleshoot equipment, request necessary repairs, and anticipate future equipment needs;Awareness of FCC requirements needed to maintain station viability;Ability to work with college administrative offices to communicate station needs (IT, Facilities, Business Office, etc.);Experience working successfully with a diverse group of people, either in an educational or community setting;Understanding of community college context;Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;Strong oral and written communication skills;Interest in facilitating relationships with community media organizations that will benefit students; Associate’s Degree;1-3 years of experience.EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: Applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements are encouraged to put in writing precisely how their background and experience have prepared them for the responsibilities of this position.
PREFERRED:
- Experience managing FCC requirements related to transmission and reporting;
- Experience working in college radio;
- Associate’s Degree in Communication or related discipline.
