Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia seeks applications for an Equity, Community, and Title IX Program Director.

About the Role

The Equity, Community, and Title IX Program Director develops and/or manages Title IX and bias responses. This position provides leadership and informational programs to help students develop and maintain healthy relationships in relation to interpersonal violence and aids the campus community in its ability to discuss and explore issues of diversity, inclusion, culture, ability, ethnicity, gender, race, religion, social class, political affiliation, national origin, sexual orientation, and other issues. The program director is also responsible for restorative, equity-based, cultural, and LGBTQIA+ programs and trainings and for building partnerships with student leaders and groups. This position reports to the Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging and supervises 1-2 work-study students during the academic year.

Specific duties include the following:

Educational Programming

  • Develop and/or manage Title IX, bias response, bystander intervention, and safe haven training curriculum and programming for students, faculty, and staff to increase awareness and understanding of sexual harassment and other protected classes.
  • In collaboration with Human Resources, develop and/or manage working with minors training and information dissemination for various employees.
  • Organize and implement evidenced-based and restorative programs and trainings in partnership with the Executive Director of DEIB and the Dean of Students.
  • Initiate equity-based activities and events in collaboration with faculty, staff, and students and develop evaluative measures to measure efficacy of programming including, but not limited to, feedback surveys, focus groups, etc.
  • Oversee and coordinate the institution’s monthly cultural programs (e.g., Hispanic Latinx Heritage Month, Coming Out Week, Native American Heritage, Asian American Heritage Month, Black History Month, etc.) and events in conjunction with dedicated student leaders while extending efforts into the Roanoke Valley community, including, but not limited to, collaboration with faculty and staff cross-institutionally on service learning, experiential, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director of DEIB and Vice President for Student Success, Well-Being, and Belonging (SSWBB) to identify and create programming to support students who identify as LGBTQIA+.
  • Build partnerships with student groups SAGA (Sexuality and Gender Alliance) and CASA (Coalition Against Sexual Assault); Academic Affairs; SSWBB; and community organizations to execute strategies that directly support access, gender identity, and mental and emotional well-being.
  • Create semester programming calendar in partnership with other campus departments and students.
  • Provide oversite, support, and effective educational training about power, privilege, intersectionality, and social justice to student organizations, student organization leaders, and various constituency groups.

Mentoring/Leadership

  • Assist with student onboarding efforts related to pre-orientation, student orientation, and/or transition programs for specific populations as they acclimate to the campus community.

Title IX/Harassment/Bias

  • Serve as the university’s Title IX Coordinator.
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of Title IX and bias reporting and responses of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Update and maintain Title IX/Harassment Grievance/Bias Response manual including procedures, strategic plans, and ongoing practices that should be undertaken to ensure that the entire campus promotes a commitment to restorative approaches and prevention.
  • Oversee and organize the university’s Harassment Grievance Board.
  • Develop an institutional approach for ongoing education and prevention programs for faculty, staff, and student leaders annually, including working with minors training for various employees.
  • Maintain log of annual trainings in collaboration with Human Resources and respective SSWBB and Academic Affairs areas.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director of DEIB and VP for SSWBB, evaluate and route incidents to respective areas for investigation.
  • Generate monthly reports and data analytics and provide monthly briefings to the Executive Director of DEIB and VP for SSWBB.
  • Stay abreast of regulations and procedural changes in Title IX policies, responses, and briefings.
  • Review and assess evaluation and incident response processes using best practices and as directed by Title IX mandates.
  • Consult with the Chief Human Resources Officer on any situations involving employees.
  • Stay abreast of best practices as they relate to Title IX, harassment, and bias response and reporting that are aligned with national standards and evidenced-based practices.

Communication

  • Coordinate communications, presentations, and incident responses as reported by the campus community. Provide relevant updates to involved individuals. Update DEIB data dashboard with number of incidents monthly.
  • Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the Executive Director of DEIB and VP for SSWBB informed of all critical issues and ensure uniform data dissemination.

Assessment

  • Create systems to evaluate programming, activities, and events to ensure they are on track to meet the office’s annual goals by synthesizing, analyzing, and managing data. Use analytics and field knowledge to guide strategy decisions.
  • Develop criteria to measure the office’s programming, activities, and events.

Research

  • Conduct research on internal, local, national, and global matters of DEIB with a specific focus on the higher education climate. Provide monthly briefings for SSWBB.

Position Qualifications

Successful applicants must have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in higher education in sexual violence prevention; diversity, equity, and inclusion; and/or student engagement programming with a focus on working with diverse populations.
  • Experience coordinating, developing, and leading DEIB programs.
  • Experience with or knowledge of Title IX, Title VII, and Title II federal laws.
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, project management, problem‐solving, change management, and influencing skills.
  • Experience in researching, developing, and implementing student success, retention, and persistence programs specifically for underrepresented students.
  • Exceptional analytical, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to think qualitatively, as well as quantitatively, to produce high quality of work reflecting attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Advanced knowledge of analytical, statistical, and data visualization tools.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.

Preferred candidates will have the following:

  • Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, women and gender studies, social work, higher education, or related field.
  • Previous experience as a Title IX coordinator or deputy Title IX coordinator.
