The Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) is dedicated to advancing our understanding of infectious diseases and improving patient care. Our expertise spans a wide range of infectious agents, from common respiratory viruses to serious illnesses like HIV. CHoR is actively seeking a full-time pediatric faculty member at any level, including Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor.

The position is designed to develop and expand hospital epidemiology services to the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. Working as a component of the overall Hospital Infection Program at VCU Health System (VCUHS), this position will advance and expand key areas of hospital epidemiology including surgical site infections and other key metrics of quality. Furthermore, identify ways to enhance public health policies and programs within the institution and its affiliates.

The successful applicant will be board-eligible / certified in Pediatric Infectious Diseases and will be expected to provide quality and timely clinical care in the inpatient and outpatient arenas. Preference will be given to applicants with a master’s in public health and experience in both clinical and hospital epidemiology and use of research and QI methodology in development of best practices. VCU Medical Center is the region’s safety net hospital, the only Level 1 trauma center in the region that is certified in burn, adult, and pediatric trauma care, and includes a 1,058 bed teaching hospital. The Medical Campus is located in downtown Richmond, VA and encompasses a 51.5-acre campus that includes the Schools of Allied Health, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Currently the medical campus has 515,000 ft2 of research labs, offices, classrooms, conference space, and is growing rapidly in new construction and renovation of current clinical and office spaces. The Children’s Tower has brought inpatient, emergency/trauma, and outpatient care under one roof. Families will benefit from the consolidation of care under one roof, while maintaining the benefits of being connected to a large urban academic medical center. This new 9 story facility will initially house 72 private rooms; an emergency department; expanded child life services; family amenities; new operating rooms and all forms of advance imaging (CT/MRI) and shelled out floors for future growth. This new Pediatric Tower allows for the CHoR physician to provide the best possible care close to home for kids and families across the Commonwealth of Virginia.
