Job Summary: The Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger entries. This role requires a keen attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a solid understanding of accounting principles. The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction industry and be familiar with relevant accounting software.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and record day-to-day financial transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Process accounts payable and receivable, including the preparation of invoices, payment of bills, and reconciliation of accounts.
- Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are properly documented and categorized.
- Prepare and process payroll, including calculating wages, deductions, and issuing paychecks.
- Reconcile bank statements and credit card transactions on a monthly basis.
- Prepare financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, for management review.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial planning.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Assist with audits and provide necessary documentation as requested.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records and documentation.
- Communicate effectively with vendors, clients, and internal staff to resolve any financial discrepancies or issues.
- Support the accounting department with other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a bookkeeper or in a similar role, preferably within the construction industry.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Certification such as Certified Bookkeeper (CB) or Certified Public Bookkeeper (CPB) is a plus.

Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to:
- the individual’s skill sets, experience and training;
- licensure and certification requirements;
- office location and other geographic considerations;
- other business and organizational needs.
With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
