Job Title:Manager, Data Integration and ReportingDepartment:ERIK | Office of Research Information Systems

The Manager, Data Integration and Reporting is responsible for providing services related to data analysis and reporting to all units and centers under the direction of the Senior Manager, Project Development & Data Reporting within the Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge (ERIK) Office of Research Information Systems (ORIS).

Oversees and leads the Data Integration and Reporting team charged with the analysis, design, development, and management of Business Intelligence solutions using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Workday, Tableau, Excel, and other relevant tools.

Works with data across multiple systems, like SQL Server, AWS Redshift, Workday, Huron and other solutions for efficient data retrieval, analysis, processing and management of large and disparate datasets.

Manages a team responsible for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) solutions for integrating and consuming data in any format from a variety of sources. Analyzes, designs, develops and manages database solutions incorporating stored procedures, functions, and database objects by utilizing complex T-SQL.

Work collaboratively in a small, cross-functional team and respond quickly to urgent, complex, or difficult requests. Manages expectations and ensures projects are on track to execute and deliver on strategic goals. Works closely with Senior Manager to identify goals for the team related to opportunities and enhancements to reporting that align with the ERIK Information Systems strategic goals.

Participates in the recruitment of new staff members to the team; Onboards and trains new employees; oversees the daily activities of all team members, including conducting performance evaluations and addressing employee relations concerns, in consultation with Human Resources and leaders within the unit.

Responsibilities:

40%: Oversees, leads, and participates in enterprise-wide data reporting and analytics projects to deliver actionable insights to support and improve research administration processes. Oversees and leads the Data Integration and Reporting team charged with the analysis, design, development, and management of Business Intelligence solutions.

30%: Manages a team responsible for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) solutions for integrating and consuming data in any format from a variety of sources. Designs, develops and maintains data-driven Business Intelligence solutions made available through the ORIS Reporting Portal, Tableau dashboards, Workday and other relevant platforms and technologies.

10%: Designs, develops and maintains database solutions incorporating stored procedures, functions, and database objects by utilizing complex T-SQL and data extraction, transformation and loading jobs.

10% Participates in the recruitment of new staff members to the team; Onboards and trains new employees; oversees the daily activities of all team members, including conducting performance evaluations and addressing employee relations concerns, in consultation with Human Resources and leaders within the unit.

10%: Keeps updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data management, reporting and analytics; participates in training and performs administrative duties as requested.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer & information science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with MS SQL Server, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Tableau, Workday, Excel, SQL query execution, execution analysis & optimization, indexing strategies, REST based web services, and use of APIs and scripting techniques to automate processing.
  • At least 4 years of experience in working with enterprise data environments creating intuitive, interactive, and effective reports, dashboards, KPIs and visualizations.
  • Experience in data analysis, data relationships, data aggregation, and summarization with the ability to consolidate data from disparate systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Workday reporting tools and modules, including Report Writer, Composite Reporting, and Advanced Reporting.
  • Must have excellent team management, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, solid analytical/critical thinking skills and time management skills.
  • Supervisory experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8-12 years of relevant working experience. Experience with Cloud computing services like AWS, Azure, Data Lake and Warehouse tools, and be able to make recommendations where and how new systems can be deployed in a hybrid cloud environment. Possesses or is pursuing an AWS and/or Azure certification.
  • Experience in Database Administration (DBA) skills for managing MS SQL Server, Data Analysis, Modeling and Profiling.
  • Working knowledge of Data security standards, web accessibility standards, application workflow design, automated testing and Source control tools.
  • Knowledge of Research Administration based processes and systems related to Proposal and Award management, Responsible research practices, Compliance, Funding opportunity, etc.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, build relationships with internal teams and external partners, and foster a collaborative work environment.
