Pay Range

$31.88 - $39.57 Hourly for the 983.1 level

$39.98 - $49.65 Hourly for the 983.2 level

Job Description

We have an opening for a Machine Repairer with an Electronics discipline in the Machine Tool Services Group. Under close supervision, you will be responsible for installing, testing, repairing, maintaining, or modifying basic electronic systems on machine tools and related equipment in support of LLNL programs. This position requires close interactions with technical and supervisory personnel throughout the Laboratory. You may receive work assignments located at various locations, including Livermore and at Site 300. This position will report to the Machine Tool Services Group Supervisor in the Materials Engineering Division (MED) within the Engineering Directorate.

In this role you will

  • Design, fabricate, install, maintain, or modify electronic systems to improve the operation, reliability, and/or safety of LLNL’s machine tools.
  • Operate a variety of machine tools under job conditions to detect/diagnose malfunctions, or to reproduce parts.
  • Use hand and powered tools that are typically used in the electronics trade including basic diagnostic equipment such as multi-test meters, oscilloscopes, recorders, line analyzers, logic analyzers, as well as diagnostic software on PC and CNC based platforms.
  • Solve fundamental problems and make minimal decisions.
  • Perform all assignments in accordance with ES&H, security, and business practice requirements and policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

In addition at the 983.2 level

  • Solve moderately complex technical problems and make limited decisions.
  • Install, test, repair, maintain, or modify moderately complex electronic systems on machine tools and related equipment in support of LLNL programs.
  • May be required to work in areas with radioactive, toxic, or high explosives materials .
  • Train others on specific machine tools testing, repairs, and machine operation.
Qualifications
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Associate degree in Electronics Technology or equivalent completion of an apprenticeship program in the industrial electronics trade or equivalent.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic level of experience using hand and powered tools that are typically used in the electronics trade including basic diagnostic equipment such as multi-test meters, oscilloscopes, recorders, line analyzers, logic analyzers, as well as diagnostic software on PC and CNC based platforms.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable electrical codes (such as the National Electrical Code NFPA-70, NFPA 70E, and the Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery NFPA-79), OSHA, and ES&H regulations.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license with the ability to operate common motor vehicles including a 6000 lb. fork truck.
  • Ability to become medically qualified to wear respiratory and protection equipment.
  • Knowledge of applicable OSHA & ES&H regulations.

In addition at the 983.2 level

  • Intermediate knowledge and experience using hand and powered tools that are typically used in the electronics trade including advanced diagnostic equipment.
  • Experience maintaining moderately complex-to-complex electronic control systems.
  • Ability to fabricate and troubleshoot basic electronic systems.
  • Intermediate knowledge of applicable electrical codes (such as the National Electrical Code   NFPA-70, NFPA 70E, and the Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery NFPA-79), OSHA, and ES&H regulations.
  • Intermediate knowledge of applicable OSHA & ES&H regulations.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Associate degree in Mechanical Technology.
  • Experience with machine controllers and troubleshooting of associated servo systems.
  • Familiarity with the electrical construction trade.

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.  If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
