Compensation Details

$39.57 per hour for the 983.1 level

$49.65 per hour for the 983.2 level

Position Overview

We are seeking a Machine Tool Repairer with expertise in Electronics to join our Machine Tool Services Group. Under close supervision, you will be tasked with the installation, testing, repair, maintenance, or modification of basic electronic systems on machine tools and associated equipment to support LLNL initiatives. This role involves frequent collaboration with technical and supervisory staff across the Laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, fabricate, install, maintain, or modify electronic systems to enhance the functionality, reliability, and safety of LLNL's machine tools.
  • Operate various machine tools under job conditions to identify and diagnose malfunctions or to reproduce components.
  • Utilize hand and powered tools commonly used in the electronics field, including basic diagnostic equipment such as multi-test meters, oscilloscopes, recorders, line analyzers, logic analyzers, and diagnostic software on PC and CNC platforms.
  • Address fundamental issues and make basic decisions.
  • Complete all tasks in compliance with ES&H, security, and business practice standards and policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities at the 983.2 Level

  • Resolve moderately complex technical challenges and make limited decisions.
  • Install, test, repair, maintain, or modify moderately complex electronic systems on machine tools and related equipment.
  • May be required to work in environments with radioactive, toxic, or high-explosive materials.
  • Provide training to others on specific machine tool testing, repairs, and operations.

Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship.
  • Associate degree in Electronics Technology or equivalent completion of an apprenticeship in the industrial electronics field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic experience with hand and powered tools used in the electronics industry, including diagnostic equipment.
  • Fundamental knowledge of relevant electrical codes, OSHA, and ES&H regulations.
  • Valid California driver's license and ability to operate common motor vehicles, including a fork truck.
  • Ability to meet medical qualifications for respiratory protection equipment.
  • Familiarity with OSHA & ES&H regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Mechanical Technology.
  • Experience with machine controllers and troubleshooting associated servo systems.
  • Understanding of the electrical construction trade.

Additional Information

This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees may be considered for this role.

Security Clearance

This position necessitates a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. If selected, a Federal background investigation will be initiated to assess eligibility for access to classified information. All L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
