Position Overview:

The Director of Development and Communications is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing all aspects of Legal Services for Prisoners with Children’s fundraising and communications program to achieve the organization’s annual and long-term fundraising goals. The primary focus of this role is to support the Executive

Director to develop and implement comprehensive annual fundraising plans with a focus on foundations, corporate, and individual donors. This seasoned leader is results-oriented and an expert project manager who enjoys working within an organization that is mission driven and community oriented. They are a talented storyteller with an understanding of donor behavior, giving motivation, and customer relationship management, and a skilled researcher, able to identify opportunities for funding and creative collaborations. They are an expert communicator and are able to strategize for social, digital, and earned media with a focus on growing audiences and engaging them in giving.

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Develop, oversee, and implement an organization-wide individual donor and major gift program, foundation support, planned giving, special events, capital campaigns, marketing, and communications. Build and support LSPC’s growing Development and Communications Team, serving as a thought partner, mentor, and supervisor to staff. Provide clear and useful feedback and strategic guidance to staff, including through performance evaluations. Work closely with the Executive Director to develop and implement comprehensive annual fundraising plans with a focus on foundations, corporate and individual donors, and donor cultivation. Work closely with the finance team on budgeting, grant management, and reporting processes and with the communications team to ensure compelling fundraising messaging. Collaborate with the Executive Director and Communications Manager to develop communications and messaging strategies and oversee the implementation of all communications. Develop, write, and oversee grant proposals from beginning to end and oversee grant writing and associated activities of other team members. Lead grant reporting. Support grassroot fundraising efforts of All of Us or None affiliated chapters.

 

Required Skills & Experience:

Minimum 5 years experience in a similar role with a proven track record Demonstrated experience in a high-level nonprofit / foundation development role for a multi-million dollar organization with diverse income streams Experience developing and implementing communications strategies, plans, and campaigns 3 years of management experience, including the supervision of staff Strong networking / fundraising skills and experience in donor stewardship, grant writing / management, and event management Ability to envision and convey an organization’s strategic future to staff, board, volunteers, and donors High level of resourcefulness, creativity, and solid organizational leadership Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well with people Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitation Alignment of key values and commitment to racial and social justice Experience or interest in working with formerly incarcerated people, and commitment and passion for supporting their power and leadership Capacity to build working relationships with system-impacted people that are supportive and build trust and self-determination, and don’t replicate harmful system power dynamics Adaptability, fast learning, resourcefulness, and capacity to take initiative
