Overview

In collaboration with the General Manager, the Director of Operations oversees, supervises, and coordinates the daily operations of the facility and its ice operations. This includes maintenance, ice resurfacer upkeep, equipment safety, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, custodial/housekeeping, landscaping/grounds keeping, and capital projects. Additionally, this role involves providing comprehensive administrative planning, direction, and policy guidance to operating managers and supervisors to ensure the highest quality of service. The Director of Operations is responsible for maintaining an effective and cost-efficient program by managing the departmental operating budget and offering highly responsible staff assistance to the General Manager.

 

This role pays a yearly salary of $70,000 to $75,000.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees overall daily operation and maintenance of the facility, ice rinks, and systems. This includes daily facility staff, workplace safety, facility equipment and systems, scoreboard systems, ice surface, custodial services, etc.
  • Operate, monitor, repair and maintain the facility’s audio-visual, environmental controls, emergency power, electrical, HVAC and lighting systems as required for the safe and efficient operation of the facility
  • Participate in the development and administration of the facility’s operations and capital budgets; forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement adjustments as necessary
  • Oversees the operation of event set-up and tear-down, i.e. signage, stage risers, truss, curtains, hockey dasher boards and glass, chairs, signs, banquet functions, etc.
  • Select, train, motivate and evaluate staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures
  • Schedule and supervise the performance of full-time and part-time operations and security staff
  • Follow the preventive maintenance program, energy management program, and standard operating procedures for all machinery and equipment
  • Responsible for Health & Safety compliance of the facility
  • Respond to routine, precautionary and emergency alarms from building automation and life safety systems
  • Develop and update comprehensive management reports and manuals (i.e. Operations Manual, Annual Facility Report, etc.)
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, facility stakeholders and facility users
  • Other duties and responsabilities as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • B.S. or B.A. degree from an accredited college/university preferred.
  • 5 - 7 years’ experience in ice & facility operations management.
  • Familiar with operational procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, event-related services and technical requirements for the types of events anticipated at the facility.
  • General knowledge in plumbing, electrical wiring and ventilating systems to be able to assist the HVAC and Electrical technicians as needed.
  • Understanding of door hardware, locks, key machine, door closers, etc.
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, drawings and other related materials.
  • Ability to follow and adhere to all safety precautions, building codes, rules, regulations, risk management and emergency procedures
  • Must show demonstrated knowledge of ice maintenance, supervisory skills and experience in work crew supervision in facility operations.
  • Ability to work event nights, weekends and holidays as required.
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and control.
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements.
  • Knowledge of ice making
  • Capable of operating in Microsoft Office applications including: Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Ability to supervise the work of others
  • Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff and guests in a clear, business-like and respectful manner which focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic and cooperative work environment
  • Ability to speak, read and write in English
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment
