Bethesda, United States National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, NIH Full time

With nationwide responsibility for improving the health and well-being of all Americans, the Department of Health and Human Services oversees the biomedical research programs of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and those of NIH’s research Institutes. The Cardiovascular Branch, Division of Intramural Research (DIR) of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is seeking an outstanding physician/scientist to initiate and direct an independent research program in clinical cardiovascular imaging on the NIH campus in Bethesda, MD. The existing faculty is an outstanding group of internationally recognized biomedical researchers covering a range of basic and clinical research areas in cardiology and complemented by the other NHLBI research branches and centers and resources within the Intramural Research Program.

NHLBI is recruiting a Clinical Tenure-Track and/or Tenured Investigator to build an innovative translational research program with a clinical focus on cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) at the NIH campus and at our collaborating quaternary care cardiology hospital, Medstar Washington Hospital Center (MWHC). We will cultivate technically-astute clinical researchers into independent investigators in patient-oriented research, which could include novel CMR methods and applications for 0.55T and higher-field CMR technology. NHLBI has a history of innovative contributions to CMR, and offers opportunities for collaboration with world-leading research groups. Successful applicants will receive an appointment with competitive salary, dedicated space at the Bethesda and MWHC campuses and budget with personnel support, travel and training funds, access to an extensive infrastructure including physics, research nursing, data-management support, and other services as needed including drug-development, gene- and cell-processing, advanced imaging, device prototyping, genomics, and large and small animal services.

The successful candidate should have a strong track record of achievement, expertise, experience and certification in the respective area of clinical/translational medicine. Applicants must be licensed to practice medicine in the United States and be board eligible/board certified in Cardiovascular Disease. Salary is commensurate with clinical and research experience and accomplishments, equivalent to the assistant professor or associate professor level.

Candidates must have an MD or MD/PhD (or equivalent). Appointees may be US citizens, resident noncitizens, or non-resident noncitizens with or eligible to obtain a valid employment authorized visa. Applications from women, minorities and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged.

Applicants should send a descriptive letter of research interest, curriculum vitae with complete bibliography, a statement of your commitment and the activities you have undertaken to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion, and arrange for three letters of reference to be sent electronically to:

Deputy Branch Chief, General Administration Branch

Office of Intramural Management, NHLBI

Applications will be reviewed beginning on November 1, 2024 and will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
