The Assistant Director for Finance and Budget's primary responsibility across NMAAHC is the integration of financial management throughout the Museum providing services in financial strategic planning, management analysis, administrative systems and tools, budget formulation, justification and defense, budget execution and procurement.
In this position, you will:
serve as principal liaison to Office of Planning, Management and Budget in budget formulation and execution. Develop annual budget projections for approval by the Director, Deputy Director and Associate Director for Operations. establish and oversee the procurement division. Establish procedures for the receipt, review and follow-up on requisitions for purchase from both Federal and Trust funds. Approve requisitions. Develop and negotiate contracts for Museum projects. serve as advisor to Director, Deputy Director and Associate Director on all matters related with audits of Museum financial/ budgetary functions. He/she will conduct internal audits to review financial soundness of various functions and/or programs and projects as directed. be responsible for the oversight of the Museum-wide budget, including budget planning, programming, priority and affordability analysis, and budget formulation (justification and defense) and execution for all NMAAHC resources.
supervise, lead, direct and coordinate the work of a staff specifically assigned to financial programs and serve as subject matter expert. Staff includes Financial and Accounting Division: Financial Analysts, Management Support Specialists and Procurement Division: Procurement Officers and Management Support Administrators.

Qualifications
Basic Qualification: Experience that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
In addition to the basic qualification requirement above:
You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience formulating, justifying, executing, and managing federal and trust (non-appropriated) fund budgets; developing and negotiating contracts; and conducting internal audits on financial procedures.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.

This position has no basic education requirement.

This position is not included in the bargaining unit.
