Position: Quality Control Specialist
Reports to: Chief Chemist

Shift: Monday-Friday, OR Tuesday-Friday and Sunday 

Wage Scale: $36.12- $43.18 w/ potential for overtime

Note: The wage scale for the position is the full wage scale an individual can make based on performance, experience, and seniority throughout their time at the company.

What you'll be contributing:

 

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, assures the quality of all products made at the plant. Conducts laboratory tests to ensure that products meet specifications (i.e., ASTM, AASHTO). Performs both chemical and physical tests on cement, clinker and raw materials to determine their quality. Complies with all applicable safety regulations.

 

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Performs necessary laboratory tests on raw materials, clinker and cement to ensure quality. Tests performed include wet chemical analysis, x-ray analysis and/or physical testing.
  • Prepares samples as needed for chemical and physical testing.
  • Operates, calibrates and performs minor repairs to laboratory equipment.  
  • Maintains laboratory inventory of chemical solutions.
  • Maintains logs and quality analysis reports.
  • Assists chief chemist with the daily quality control of plant operations.
  • Works combined chemical/physical testing on weekends to provide quality assurance.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

ISO 14001 TRAINING PLAN

The Quality Control Specialist must become familiar with the ISO 14001 requirements. 

 

To succeed in this position, you will need:

 

  • High school graduation or equivalent is required. 
  • Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
  • Willingness to learn, training will be provided 
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent with emphasis in laboratory science preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience performing related chemical and physical tests is a plus.
  • Knowledge of chemical testing including wet chemical and x-ray analysis and physical testing procedures
  • Ability to perform precise and accurate analysis and testing with minimal directions and supervision.
  • Ability to develop and follow comprehensive technical directions.  
  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment including balances, x-rays, TGA, muffle furnace, physical testing equipment and laboratory computer. 
  • Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.  Ability to perform basic math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  Skills needed include logic, problem-solving, decision-making, and verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Working requires walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, working in an awkward position, and lifting objects weighing up to 75 pounds on occasion.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 250 feet.

                                           

What to expect in a cement environment: 

 

Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure. 

 

This position is classified as safety sensitive in accordance with WA Senate Bill 5123.
