As the Bio-Rad Manufacturing Maintenance Manager, you will lead the Maintenance functions for the Richmond Chemical Plant that produces process chromatography resins, liquid buffers, monomer solutions, oils, and other specialized life science products.

You will be responsible for maintaining site equipment and supporting plant projects on equipment including glass-lined reactors with heating systems, semi-automated fill lines, air classifiers, wet sizing units, inline mixing systems, and semi-automated dispense systems among various others. Site Instrumentation includes control valves, temp, pressure, speed transmitters and automation systems include Allen Bradley RS Logix, Control/Compact Logix, Automation direct HMI, and PLCs.

General duties include daily supervision of the Manufacturing Maintenance staff and contracted service providers. You have primary accountability for ensuring that the manufacturing equipment is maintained at optimum service levels through proactive monitoring and reliability analysis, rapid response to issues, on time calibration and inspections and maintaining the required skills and capacity within the team. You are also responsible for directing and developing the Maintenance staff and performing skilled equipment maintenance as needed. You will establish and maintain policies and procedures which ensure that equipment maintenance is performed at required frequencies.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Oversee and administer all aspects of manufacturing maintenance activities, perform daily management, prioritization and execution of maintenance requests and preventative maintenance work orders for a batch process chemical manufacturing and packaging facility.
  • Maintain electronic maintenance planning system and set work assignments for maintenance team of 4-6 direct reports and interface/influence prioritization and timing of work for Corporate Facilities Maintenance team.
  • Prepare and review relevant maintenance metrics to drive improvement on "time on tools", adherence to budget, uptime/OEE and calibration performance. Report out to various audiences.
  • Develop, implement, manage, and sustain all maintenance programs including preventative maintenance, spare parts program, calibration program, planning and scheduling, training and procedures.
  • Plan, staff, and manage equipment projects to achieve safe, efficient execution, and communication between work streams.
  • Drive improvements in department, and greater site, with particular emphasis on EHS programs, 5S/housekeeping standards and contractor management. Ensure that all work performed by staff and contractors meets Regulatory and Corporate standards.
  • Provide leadership and development to the plant's maintenance personnel. Set expectations and hold employees accountable for performance and professional behavior.
  • Ensure resources are available for routine and emergency manufacturing support for equipment and processes and balance this against deliverables for strategic projects and continuous improvement goals.
  • Drive continuous improvement in all aspects of manufacturing maintenance ensuring sustainable improvements. Develop strong understanding of equipment, create equipment plans and sparing strategy to reduce unexpected downtime and to meet business continuity needs.
  • Understand site needs in relation to short-term and longer-term priorities and effectively collaborate with cross-functional partners such as Production, EHS, Quality Control and Facilities to prioritize actions and projects.
  • Continuously evaluates service provider performance for compliance with service contracts and established company performance standards.
  • Lead own team and advise other teams, gathering and analyzing equipment and calibration data to identify key issues and improvements. Coach and develop team on continuous improvement, creative problem solving and challenge status-quo.

What You Bring:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Engineering. Associates degree/technical certification and relevant experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree will be considered.
  • Work Experience: 3+ years supervisory/management experience and 5+ years of maintenance or engineering in a chemical or manufacturing environment.
  • 2+ years of project management, facility management/planning, GMP/ISO regulated manufacturing environment, knowledge of Federal, State and local codes and regulations is desirable.
  • Strong instrumentation and electrical skills, along with hands-on experience in troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of industrial equipment.
  • Working knowledge of equipment maintenance, calibration systems, and validation processes. Preference given to candidate with previous experience with the equipment, instrumentation, and automation systems on site.
  • Working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and SAP preferred.
  • Ability to train and develop subordinate technical skills and to train and develop team in continuous improvement and problem-solving skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are essential to communicate at all organizational levels professionally and effectively.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills along with the demonstrated ability to make sound business decisions.
  • Practical Continuous Improvement experience, GPM/TPM Lean/Six Sigma experience required. Preference leading Kaizens, root cause analysis or other CI activities is required.

Compensation: The estimated annual compensation range for this position is $114,700 to $157,800 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors. This position is eligible for a variable annual bonus, which is dependent upon achievement of your individual objectives and Company performance.
