Early Childhood Program Director

Torit Montessori School is an infant through sixth-grade independent school on Boston’s historic Beacon Hill. Our mission is to educate bright and capable students in the spirit of Dr. Maria Montessori’s groundbreaking methods, allowing students to explore materials, ideas, and applications at their own pace, with guidance, direction, and encouragement from teachers.

The Early Childhood Program Director (infants - 5 year olds) presents the School to prospective families, works to enroll and retain a diverse group of well-matched students each year, and oversees the program and the talented faculty who deliver on the Torit difference. This position demands strong people skills, an understanding of child-centered pedagogy, strategic thinking and tactical problem solving abilities, and requires a dynamic self-starter who is eager to be a part of a high-functioning administrative team. The position is full time, year round, and is eligible for benefits. The Director reports to the Head of School.

We are a small shop, and every administrator is expected to pitch in with humor and good will to keep Torit humming. We all soothe upset kids, support busy parents, and fix broken stuff. We play with infants, lend a hand with classroom coverage, and sing in Arabic, Mandarin, and Spanish (we teach all three). A positive attitude, flexibility, and a willingness to roll with whatever the day brings is essential. The strongest candidates will have the ability to simultaneously work hard and laugh together.

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates must possess a deep understanding of the academic, developmental, and social emotional milestones of 2 to 6-year-olds. A bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of experience in a Montessori, early childhood, or independent school (or equivalent) is required. He or she must have excellent written and oral communication skills. The position requires exceptional organizational abilities, attention to detail, and unwavering follow through. Torit seeks candidates who will reflect and enhance the racial, cultural, and gender diversity of our school; a demonstrated ability working in a diverse and inclusive community is essential.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Leading the early childhood faculty with energy, enthusiasm, and vision

- Working with the Associate Head of School to ensure teachers develop and deliver a Montessori curriculum that encourages the best from each child
- Supervising teachers to nurture their professional growth and development, including regular classroom observations and feedback
- Engaging families in each step of the admissions process, ensuring excellent and individualized communication, including tours
- Collaborating with the Head of School to retain qualified families into Torit’s elementary program
- Implementing the schedule and working to cover gaps as they arise
- Other duties as assigned
