This starts with creating a culture of belonging within our organization that values the diverse experiences and expertise of our team members, allowing everyone to thrive and to contribute their unique talents as we strive to achieve our shared goals.

The College of the Environment has an exciting opening for an Associate Director for Advancement. This is a full-time, permanent position.

This Associate Director for Advancement (ADOA) is responsible for assisting in the planning, strategy-setting and execution of activities necessary to secure gifts and grants for the College of the Environment (CoEnv). They will focus on raising increasing levels of private support — for current use, endowment and capital purposes — that benefits the College’s students, faculty, staff and programs.

This role will work closely with the Senior Director for Advancement, the Associate Dean for Advancement, and University Advancement and unit colleagues to identify, engage and solicit prospective major gift donors. The ADOA will have assigned responsibility for oversight and coordination of fundraising programs in one or more academic departments.

What You Will Do:

Frontline Fundraising (60%)

• Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects with an emphasis on Top 25 prospects. Develop and implement an engagement, solicitation and stewardship strategy for each assigned prospect, with an emphasis on lead prospects for emerging campaign initiatives.

• Work closely with unit colleagues as well as colleagues in Regional and International Giving, Principal Gifts, Planned Giving, and Corporate & Foundation Relations to prepare and execute engagement and solicitation strategies for assigned prospects.

• Keep accurate and complete records using the UW’s donor database and ensure donors receive appropriate and timely acknowledgements for their gifts.

• Prepare written and verbal proposals, case statements, concept/informational materials, endowment agreements, gift illustrations and other materials needed to secure gifts and grants.

Strategy Development (20%)

• Provide strategic leadership and support to assigned academic units, including designing and implementing strategies and efforts needed to sustain and increase major gift and alumni support.

• Coordinate the participation of administrators, academic leaders, volunteers and development staff in fundraising strategies, efforts and events.

• Develop and implement strategies to engage diverse communities and individuals that have not otherwise been approached, including volunteer opportunities and cultivating private support.

Program Development and Management (20%)

• Create an annual personalized work plan for accomplishing specific goals and objectives in coordination with the College’s articulated goals and priorities. Provide regular reports noting progress and challenges.

• Participate in the improvement and development of policies and procedures relating to the Advancement program.

• Participate in strategic planning opportunities, stewardship activities, and events for the College’s Advancement team.

• Collaborate with the College’s Advancement colleagues, including the Marketing & Communications team, in the creation of marketing materials targeting a diverse range of constituents, with emphasis on major gift prospects and opinion leaders.

Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree and at least five years of experience in development/advancement or a related field.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

What You Bring:

• General knowledge of planned giving options (e.g. charitable remainder trusts, gift annuities, complex outright gifts involving real estate and testamentary commitments).

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

• Dedication to the College and University’s mission and vision in advancing diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
