The DCOS responsibilities include serving as the lead physician in the medical center's Inpatient Flow Improvement, Systems Redesign (following charter revision) and Quality Improvement/Patient Safety initiatives; preparation and implementation of the Cerner EMR system. The incumbent is directly accountable to the Chief of Staff for clinical program activities and overall compliance to VA, VHA, and VISN-wide policies and procedures. The DCOS role will: (1) coordinate the work of the services under their direct supervision and (2) to collaborate with those services reporting to the Nurse Executive, Deputy Director, and Associate Director to implement key VA Central Office, Network and Medical Center organizational strategies. Responsibilities of the incumbent will include the following weighted approximately 5% clinical, 90% administrative duties, and 5% education.

Clinical Work
Provides direct patient care in their specialty they are credentialed and privileged on a rotational basis.

Customer Service

Bases planning on patient and staff feedback and projected needs.

Quality Improvement

Serves as lead physician for quality improvement initiatives and utilization management.

Budget and Fiscal Management

Under the direction of the VASTLHCS governance structure, collaborates with the Executive Leadership Team and service chiefs in the development and execution of the overall Health Care System strategic and business plan.

Organizational Stewardship

Demonstrates commitment to the VA Saint Louis Health Care System goals.

Team Building

Develops an interdisciplinary team of innovative, highly motivated individuals who are continuously striving for excellence in patient care and customer service.

Human Resources Management

Responsible for assuring appropriate action in such matters as promotions, selections, rewards and recognition, training, and problem resolution.

Communications

Demonstrates leadership in addressing ethical issues that impact clients and staff in/or beyond the organization/local health care community.

Leadership Duties:

The incumbent demonstrates the ability to represent VASTLHCS in VISN wide clinical service coordination.

Pay:
Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases


Paid Time Off:
