This is a full time position at 40 hours per week in the Medicine Service Line. The Section Chief, Medical Education for Internal Medicine will be responsible for supervision of all clinical staff within the section of medical education in Internal Medicine.
Duties

The Section Chief, Medical Education for Internal Medicine including assignment of duties, coordinating schedules, coordinating educational conferences, and ensuring annual reviews and proficiency evaluations are completed in a timely manner. Ensures the section is in compliance with all local policies and national directives. Section Chief is responsible for regularly monitoring data, participating, and presenting section goals, targets, benchmarks, and data at the department level. Section Chief will serve as mentor to staff whom he/she supervises and provides on-going training and education. Meets with ACOS Internal Medicine routinely to provide section updates and action plans. Meets applicable deadlines for goals, objective, measures, and facility suspense's. Conducts mid-year and end of year evaluations. Ensures VA remains in compliance with affiliate expectations for the learning environment. Communicates with the site directors for affiliate programs and is a liaison between the Internal Medicine section and the Health Professions Education Service. Demonstrates knowledge and awareness of applicable LCME and ACGME policies as it pertains to the learning environment for medical students, residents, and fellows.
Key responsibilities include the following:
Oversees rotational experiences for internal medicine residents and students including creating and updating learning objectives and expectations documents.
Oversees the scheduling and availability of Full-time equivalent (FTE) Graduate Medical Education positions in internal medicine at the VA for Washington University in St. Louis and Saint Louis University.
In conjunction with the chief residents and site directors, oversees the education conference calendars for the academic year including daily resident report, grand rounds, patient safety/quality improvement conference, journal club, fundamental lecture series, morbidity and mortality conference, and radiology rounds.
Oversees the VA Grand Rounds CME program through Washington University in St. Louis and ensures sessions are reviewed and available for CME credit.
Teach and train residents and students as part of the academic partnership with our affiliate organizations.
Work collaboratively with other providers in the section.
Engages in continuous process improvements in support of a high reliability organization
Position will account for 70% clinical and 30% supervisory

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)
Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided
Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 0800-`1630
