Job Purpose

To support the operation of the New York transmission system in a safe, secure, reliable, and efficient manner in accordance with all FERC, NERC, NPCC, NYISO, and National Grid requirements, standards, and procedures. 

Key Accountabilities

Accountable for the safe, secure, reliable, and efficient operation of National Grid’s New York Transmission system. 

• Coordinate generator dispatch with generators and the NYISO 

• Ensure compliance with all applicable NYISO and company procedures. 

• Oversee switching operations on the transmission system. 

• Maintain pertinent Energy Accounting System/operating records, essential for supplementing billing reconstruction. 

• Capture and send out reports as required for other departments on a timely basis. 

Performs periodic checks of control room equipment. 

• Maintain close and effective working relationships with the EMS staff, NYISO, field work force,  and distribution control rooms as well as with neighbouring utilities, generators and transmission customers. 

• Maintain NERC Reliability Coordinator certification. 

• Maintain Clearance and Control authorization. 

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
  • Able to train and develop new staff to maintain a highly skilled team.
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications

• A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, other Engineering disciplines or related technical degree is desirable. Typically role requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the operation maintenance or engineering of the bulk power, transmission and substation system. In particular, transmission system operating control room experience is preferred. 
• Qualified NERC Certified Operator or must obtain NERC Certification within one year. 
• Requires knowledge of computer simulation tools such as load flow and unit commitment. 
• Knowledge of power system operations and equipment. 
• Familiarity with market operations 
• Detailed knowledge of all applicable NYISO and Control Center standards, policies and procedures. 
• Detailed knowledge of EMS, state estimator, load flow, contingency analysis, and SCADA. 
• Detailed Knowledge of Clearance and Control procedures. 
• Familiarity with Company policies and procedures 
• Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills. 
• Ability to effectively make significant real-time operating decisions. 
• Ability to evaluate alternate courses of action, and to make decisions against a background of ambiguity and uncertainty. 
• Proven leadership and interpersonal skills. 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
• Must have an operating knowledge of personal computers including Word and Excel. 
• Ability to work rotating shifts.

Salary

$100k - $142k a year
