Become a part of something IMPACT-ful Ground Missile Defense (GMD) is the heart of the Missile Defense System and a key element of our nation's defense against ballistic missile attacks. The GMD Weapon System (GWS) processes data from multiple sensors to identify and characterize the inbound ballistic missile threat, plans the best defensive solution, and launches the intercepting missiles to negate the threat.

The Work
We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer with an emphasis on Structural Analysis experience to join the GWS GSS (Ground Support System) Hardware Team.

As a Structural Engineer you will support the GMD Weapon System (GWS)Hardware Engineering team's design efforts working within an Agile environment. Your core tasks will entail supporting the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Weapons Systems (GWS) Ground Support Systems (GSS) product team and be responsible for analyzing complex systems and developing solutions to structural analysis problems. Establish design concepts, criteria and engineering efforts for product research, development, integration, and test. Active participation in team scrum meetings and internal/external demos, and documenting progress on team dashboards is expected.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 7 years of related experience, or 4 years of experience with a PhD.
Strong background in mechanical design, analysis, assembly and integration and environmental testing
Experience with design and development of precision mechanical components and assemblies.
Ability to conduct trade studies of engineering analysis and present results in written format
Demonstrated ability to articulate technical concepts to other internal and customer teams.
Finite Element/Finite Difference analysis experience
Computer aided design experience using Solidworks or equivalent CAD packages
Experience with thermal and structural analysis methodologies and software tools.
Must be able to support an in-person / closed-area work environment.
Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs.
Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance which is required to start.
Desired Skills:
BS in Mechanical Engineering
Specialty Engineering Experience: Environmental and/or Safety.
Experience with mechanical overhaul procedure development at the equipment and system level.
Experience conducting analysis of mechanical components and structures involving launch equipment, determining effectiveness, and creating written recommendations for increasing efficiency.
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
