The Department of Surgery and Organ Transplant Center at The University of Iowa are seeking a Licensed Clinical Psychologist to become an active member of a dynamic, specialized, interdisciplinary team of surgeons, physicians, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, dieticians, financial counselors, administrators and other support staff to participate in the evaluation of transplant recipients, donors and to support individuals becoming eligible for transplant.

The Organ Transplant Center provides clinical services to individuals in need of liver, kidney, and pancreas transplants, as well as potential donors. Clinical responsibilities include:

Psychological evaluations of patients in need of liver, kidney, and pancreas transplants, including the development of treatment plans to facilitate patient transplant candidacy. Most evaluations take place in an outpatient clinic setting, but some urgent assessments are performed in hospital

Psychological evaluations of potential living donors

Timely completion of written reports summarizing evaluation material, case conceptualization, and recommendations

Provision of follow-up interventions with select patients who are deferred for listing, actively waitlisted, or post-transplant

Post-surgical follow-up of living donors

Possible consultation with select patients from the heart and lung transplant programs

Participation in interdisciplinary transplant team meetings

Attend Transplant Listing Meetings as a highly valued member of the team

This position includes a faculty appointment at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine (non-tenure clinical track), with rank and salary commensurate with experience at a 1.0 FTE (100% clinical).

Working at the state s only tertiary academic medical center offers unique opportunities for program development and application of skills for very complex patients. Additionally, psychologists working within the University of Iowa Healthcare system have opportunity to collaborate and associate with a large group of faculty psychologists housed in the Department of Psychiatry. The UI Department of Psychiatry has a long tradition of excellence in research, a well-developed research infrastructure, and ample patient populations that support efforts in a variety of areas of investigation. These include studies in neuroimaging, genetics, epidemiology, psychopharmacology, neuropsychology, health psychology, and basic neuroscience. The Department of Psychiatry is made up of more than 90 full-time faculty members who provide national and international leadership across a range of psychiatric areas, such as child psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, eating disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, medical psychiatry, and community psychiatry.

The psychologist is welcome to engage in teaching at multiple levels, such as medical residents/fellows, medical students, and graduate students. Teaching opportunities include more formal didactics and clinical teaching in areas of the psychologist s expertise. Supervision of graduate school practicum students from the University of Iowa Clinical Science (Clinical Psychology) program and fellows in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry is highly encouraged.

Required Qualifications:

Doctoral degree (Ph.D., Psy.D.) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology and completion of a postdoctoral fellowship from an APA-approved program

Demonstrated excellence in patient care, consultation, and collaboration

be able to function effectively and efficiently as part of a multidisciplinary health services team

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Minimum of one year of supervised postdoctoral clinical experience in a health psychology-related setting

Licensed or eligible for licensure and Health service provider status in State of Iowa

Desirable Qualifications:

Two years of postdoctoral clinical psychology experience in a medical setting, ideally with some exposure to a transplant population

Previous clinical and/or research experience with transplant patients or in a related health psychology setting is preferred, but not required
