Summary

Ansys is looking for an experienced and motivated acoustics researcher and software developer to join our team. In this role, you will primarily work with a software development team on vibration, acoustics, soil-structure interaction, PML and seismic analysis solvers development. Our products are physics-based mission modeling and simulation software, used by thousands of customers worldwide to solve some truly difficult problems.

 

As a Lead R&D Engineer, you will lead the development of some specific areas and capabilities of LS-DYNA software products. You will be hands-on, developing new capabilities in a commercially released product. Additionally, you will use your expertise in the domain to support and influence our business’ NVH and acoustic solution strategy, identify the most lucrative opportunities to leverage NVH / acoustics tools and technology in existing product capabilities, and provide technical and thought leadership, guidance, and education to your teammates and subject matter experts in other domains.  

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads planning, architecture, and implementation at a project level
  • Applies FEM / BEM/ PML methods to products and processes, including identification, evaluation, implementation and maintenance
  • Acts as a technical reference, staying abreast of the latest acoustic, SSI methods, and identifies promising areas of research applicable to LS-DYNA products
  • Disseminates acoustics knowledge and awareness throughout the business unit
  • Develops and employs best practices and promotes them across the group through technical reviews and mentoring
  • Works collaboratively, as well as independently, without direct supervision; this includes gathering and documenting requirements from SMEs and stakeholders
  • Performs complex bug verification; research problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions, collaborating with the QA/support team
  • Researches and understands the marketing requirements for new products and capabilities, including target customers, performance criteria, and competitive issues
  • May work directly with customers or proxies to assess their needs and develop solutions

 

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 8 years’ experience, MS with 6 years’ experience, or PhD with 4 years’ experience
  • Expert knowledge with various unsupervised and supervised NVH / acoustic models, civil and hydraulic engineering building models, and their applications
  • 3+ years of proven, hands-on experience in scientific and industry level commercial software development; this includes experience in productizing code and algorithms
  • Strong proficiency programming in Fortran, C, C++, Python, in production quality code 

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Programming experience in Fortran, C, C++
  • Programming experience in MPI / Hyrid MPP environments
  • Programming experience using scientific computing libraries, such as Intel MKL libraries.
  • Possesses a strong desire to support cross-discipline R&D work and willingness to ramp up on domains outside of NVH/Acoustics
  • Published research in the application of vibration / acoustics / Structure-Soil Interaction / PML in the fields of auto and aircraft NVH, motor and engine NVH and civil and hydraulic engineering analysis.
  • Experience leading projects and delivering high-quality products in a large-scale commercial software development environment
  • Ability to translate business needs into development plans
  • Ability to overcome obstacles and drive projects to completion
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and geographies, and to mentor junior engineers
